Normally, stating that a new or updated car is just like its
predecessor kind of saps the life out of its 鈥渘ewness.鈥?Take the
2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS450, for example. Its close kinship with last
year鈥檚 GL450 may not be exciting, but it is a good thing, as that
model represented the ideal intersection of price, performance, and
fuel economy in the four-model GL-class lineup. For 2017, that family
stays the same aside from a minor name change to GLS-class and subtle
cosmetic updates inside and out. Sharing its 362-hp 3.0-liter
twin-turbocharged V-6 with the pre-refresh, S-less GL450, the GLS450
again slots into the lineup above the diesel-powered GLS350d and below
the high-powered, high-priced, eight-cylinder GLS550 and GLS63 AMG
variants. 1650 over a GLS350d, and for that extra scratch you get 107
more horsepower at the expense of a few mpg. GL350 diesel and the
GL550, the GLS450 compares favorably. The GL350 BlueTec reached 60 mph
in 7.5 seconds and returned 22 mpg, while the GL550 accelerated to 60
mph in 5.4 seconds but delivered a dismal 14 mpg. Aside from their new
nine-speed automatic transmission shared with the GLS450, the 鈥?7
GLS350d and GLS550 aren鈥檛 expected to perform much differently.

67,050. Formerly known as the GL-Class, Mercedes has renamed this SUV
because they say it鈥檚 now the 鈥淪-Class among the SUVs.鈥?Key
competitors for the 2017 GLS include the Cadillac Escalade, Infiniti
QX80, and Range Rover. What鈥檚 New for the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS?
Besides coming with a name change, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS features
a redesigned front fascia that鈥檚 highlighted by a wider grille and
restyled headlights. In contrast, the back end of the vehicle gets new
LED taillights and a fresh bumper design. As for the interior, Mercedes
offers its new COMAND system with 8-inch touchscreen that can be used
to access navigation and entertainment technology, among other
functions. Consumers will have the choice between four distinct trim
levels: GLS350d, GLS450, GLS550, and AMG GLS63. Other than minor
changes made to the front and rear fascias, the exterior of the new GLS
is very similar to its predecessor. If there are two things that
Mercedes-Benz vehicles are famous for, then it would have to be
extravagant interior cabins, as well as tremendous power underneath
their hoods. The 2017 GLS certainly won鈥檛 disappoint Mercedes
enthusiasts in the power department, as this new model is available
with four powerful engine options.

Mercedes-Benz India today added a new product to its AMG
high-performance range of models. The Mercedes-Benz GL63 AMG went on
sale in India today, and is priced at INR 1.66 crores (ex-Showroom,
Mumbai). Based on the new GL Class which was launched in India last
year, the GL63 AMG is the go-faster, performance-oriented version of
the SUV. Power comes from a 5,461 cc V8 engine producing 557 hp between
5,250-5,750 rpm and 760 Nm of torque between 2,000-5,000 rpm. The GL63
sends power to all its wheels using an AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC
transmission and Mercedes's traditional 4MATIC system. 0-100 km/h is
dispatched within 4.9 seconds, while the top-speed is electronically
limited to 250 km/h. In the EU tests, the GL63 claims an average fuel
consumption of 8.13 km/l and emits 288 g/km of CO2. Unlike the regular
GL Class which is locally assembled at Mercedes's facility in Chakan,
Maharashtra, the GL63 AMG is brought into the country via the CBU
(Completely Built-up Unit) route. Mercedes India's AMG portfolio now
consists of the C63 AMG, E63 AMG, SLK55 AMG, G63 AMG and GL63 AMG.
