Beanstandung:
Grunting/creaking noises from the area of the front axle when braking, driving over surface undulations, negotiating tight corners, or while
maneuvering at low speeds.
Anhange
Ursache:
Cause 1: Bolt torque connecting the crash strut with the undenfloor (M10 bolt) too low, see "Bild 1.pdf" in attachment.
Cause 2: Bump stop of rear rubber mount comes into contact with external shell.
Cause 3: End faces of front rubber mounts rub against the body and cause noises during certain movements of the transverse control arms.
Anhange
Abhilfe:
Perform a test drive and use e.g. the Steelman Chassis Ear to locate the source of the noise and identify the relevant cause.
If the source cannot be clearly identified, work through the following measures individually. The note (see below) must be observed!
1.) Clean M10 bolt on crash strut and install using a thread locking agent (e.g. Loctite 270).
Tighten bolt to the increased torque of 80 Nm.
Refer to reference sound file 1.mp3
2.) Completely wax rear rubber mount of lower transverse control arm.
Refer to reference sound file 3.mp3
3.) Replace rubber mounts of upper transverse control arms.
4.) Replace front rubber mount of lower transverse control arm.
Refer to reference sound file 2.mp3
Note
^ A test drive must be performed after completing each individual step of the remedy. If the noise is no longer reproducible no further
remedial action should be taken.
^ A new repair method has been defined according to which both rubber mounts of the upper transverse control arm and the front rubber
mount of the lower transverse control arm are replaced separately.
