Power Windows Intermittently Not Functioning Correctly
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of the power windows intermittently not functioning correctly and no fault codes are
present or stored, this may be due to a function called thermal protection
The power window motors are protected against overheating by a software-based thermal protection function in the respective door control unit or
front SAM control unit. If the thermal protection function is triggered, the power window motor cannot be actuated for a short period of time.
Typically after a waiting time of approximately 30 seconds (depending on outside temperature) the windows can be actuated again.
A misaligned window will take more effort from the motor to move the window. This may lead to the power windows entering thermal protection
mode.
Some symptoms of misalignment:
^ The window will not move uniformly through its travel range.
^ The tone of the window motor may change during the window's travel range.
Note:
After-market tint applied to the side window adds thickness. This may cause more friction (motor strain) in the travel range of the window.
If window misalignment is suspected, use the following WIS documents to ensure the window system is properly calibrated:
