Front Seat Backrest Difficult to Recline
MODEL
R50 (Cooper), R52 (Cooper Convertible), R53 (Cooper S)
SITUATION
After operating the front seat easy entry feature, the seat backrest is difficult to recline to its original position.
This may also occur while the customer is sitting in the front seat and tries to recline the backrest.
CAUSE
The easy entry mechanism in the front seat may not have a sufficient amount of lubrication.
CORRECTION
In case of a customer complaint, a grease should be applied to both front seat easy entry mechanisms.
PROCEDURE
Recline the front seat completely to allow access to the easy entry mechanism.
Locate the area on the seat where the mechanism can be accessed. This is area where the seat bottom meets the backrest.
Lift up the seat cover material on the backrest to expose the easy entry mechanism.

Apply a small amount of Wurth True Glide Grease to the mechanism.
Note:
Grease should be applied to both the left and right side mechanisms of each seat.
Operate the easy entry feature by pressing the easy entry handle (1). Then recline the seat backrest and forth several times until the effort level has
improved.
