SUBJECT
Instrument Panel Noise
MODEL

SITUATION
A distinct creaking noise is heard from the center of the instrument panel when driving on a rough road.
The noise can be reduced or stopped by pressing lightly on the center area of the instrument panel.

CAUSE
Motion between the central guide pin (1) on the upper instrument panel and the guide hole on the body (2) can cause a creaking noise.
CORRECTION
On a customer complaint basis, apply felt tape onto the central guide pin.
Note:
Accessing the guide pin will require removing the instrument panel.
PROCEDURE
^ Remove the instrument panel upper trim per Repair Instructions RA 51 45 050
^ Remove the instrument panel if necessary to access the central guide pin.
^ Apply felt tape (3), part number 61 13 0 301 534, on to the central guide pin (1).
^ Reinstall the instrument panel upper trim.
^ Ensure that the guide pin (1) fits into the guide hole on the body (2) and that the felt tape (3) is not pushed down by the body during
reinstallation.
