2002-2006 Mini Cooper (R50) L4-1.6L (W10) Page 189

SUBJECT

Service Action: Correct Owner's Manual, Flat Tire Monitor

MODEL

R50 (Cooper), R53 (Cooper S)

SITUATION

This Service Action involves the functional description of the flat tire monitoring system in the Owners Manual. The Owner's Manual states that in

the event of a flat tire, an audible signal will sound and an indicator lamp will flash. This description of the indicator lamp operation is incorrect.

When the system detects a flat tire, in addition to the audible signal, the indicator lamp is illuminated continuously.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

This Service Action involves Cooper and Cooper S vehicles which were produced from 15 April 2002-2006 through 5 June 2002-2006.

In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this Service Action, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of the DCS (Dealer

Communication System). Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.

The Chassis Number Ranges listed below are only for informational purposes and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.

CORRECTION

The repair consists of installing a label in the vehicle's Owner's Manual. The label containing the proper description of the system function covers the

previous description in the Owner's Manual.

Each dealer will be sent 30 labels. Additional labels may be ordered under MD20-035.

PROCEDURE

Obtain the vehicle's Owner's Manual. Open the Owner's Manual to page 63 and install the label over the original text on the left side of the page.

PARTS INFORMATION

The labels are available online at MINI TIS under Materials Ordering. Refer to bulletin M10 01 02 for instructions on how to place an order.

LABEL INSTRUCTIONS

This Service Action has been assigned code number 15. After the vehicle has been checked, and corrected if necessary, obtain a label (MD 20-013)

and:

a. emboss your MINI dealer warranty number in the middle of the label (1);

b. punch out code number 15 (2) printed on the label and,

c. affix the label to the B pillar as shown.

If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on

top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
