Much like its Germanic competition, Mercedes has been rolling out
diesel versions of its cars and SUVs in the U.S. Benz will be getting
the jump on the luxury compact crossover segment with its 2013
Mercedes-Benz GLK250 Bluetec, set to arrive next spring. While it
certainly appears the Audi Q3, VW Tiguan, and BMW X3 will eventually
get diesel options here as well, like those annoying Internet
commenters, Mercedes gets to say first! We recently sampled the
refreshed GLK lineup, which will come with two updated engines. Benz's
3.5-liter V-6 with 302 horsepower and 273 lb-ft is the base engine
while the 2.1-liter turbodiesel I-4 with 190 horses and an impressive
369 lb-ft powers the GLK250. Both engines are mated to the automaker's
tried-and-true, seven-speed automatic. It's not quite as quick as the
3.5-liter, but the diesel is still plenty fast and it performed just as
admirably during our mountain road runs.

We slid behind the wheel of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G550 and AMG 63 to
find out if the icons have gone soft with their new plush interior and
independent front suspension. Spoiler: The brick on wheels that is the
G-Class is as capable as ever. With three locking differentials, more
leather than a furniture store, and side pipes, the G-Class remains an
icon that can go anywhere in luxury. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson said
his "Fast and Furious" character Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham's
character Deckard Shaw will not be in the upcoming "Fast 9" flick. That
doesn't mean the two characters are gone from the franchise. No, far
from it. The "Hobbs and Shaw" spinoff will premier this August, and it
doesn't mean the two couldn't end up in the 10th installment of the
franchise. Subaru teased the interior of the 2020 Legacy sedan before
its debut next week at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show. The image revealed
the latest iteration of the all-wheel-drive sedan will feature a large
tablet-like infotainment touchscreen that controls both audio and
climate functions.

The range-topping Mercedes-Benz crossover SUV is getting a nip/tuck and
a name change for the 2017 model year. What was formerly known as the
GL-Class will now be called the GLS-Class, but it should still look
familiar to devotees of the brand. Eagle-eyed consumers will notice the
GLS鈥?new face, which takes more than a few cues from Mercedes-Benz鈥檚
other crossovers, the GLA, GLC, and GLE. A pair of headlights fit more
closely into the grille鈥檚 contours, and a sculpted hood revives the
twin power bulges seen on the first-generation GL-Class. Moving around
the vehicle, a slightly updated tailgate and new LED taillamps give the
GL-Class a freshened appearance, but the difference between the GL and
GLS is evolutionary, not revolutionary. Inside, the GLS is a little
more distinctive. A new dashboard and door panels greet passengers,
with updated technology features appearing in the form of the floating
touchscreen panel Mercedes is keen on spreading throughout its model
line.
