The new engine is expected to produce around 400 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, which is comparable to the current Hemi V-8s.
The decision to drop the Hemi V-8s is part of Ram's strategy to meet the stricter emissions and fuel economy standards that will take effect in the next few years. The company also plans to introduce a plug-in hybrid version of the Ram 1500, as well as an all-electric model in the future. The Ram 1500 will continue to offer a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 engine as an option for customers who prefer diesel power.
