Acura recently announced that pricing for its redesigned 2019 RDX luxury crossover will begin at $38,295, including destination. That’s darn reasonable because it’s exactly the same as the outgoing 2018 model. However, Cars Direct has uncovered that leasing a new RDX is pretty darn expensive. In short, it’s only $5 per month cheaper to lease than the larger MDX, whose base price is $6,900 more than that of the RDX. Let’s break this down. You can lease a new 2019 Acura RDX this month for $409 per month for 36 months.

Another $2,999 is due at signing and the vehicle has a 10,000 miles per year allowance. This is based on an MSRP of $38,295, but the effective cost is $492 per month. However – and here comes the kicker – an also brand new MDX is currently being advertised at $419 per month for 36 months with $2,799 due at signing. It has an MSRP of $45,195, but the effective cost is $497 per month – only $5 more monthly and a $6,900 MSRP price difference than that of the RDX. Why do the two have nearly identical lease prices? The devil is in the details. The RDX apparently has a residual value of 63 percent whereas the MDX’s is 58 percent.

Also, the RDX doesn't have any factor lease discounts while the MDX offers a $2,050 discount in factory lease cash. These combined reasons are what’s making the RDX so pricey to lease at the moment, though this likely won’t last because the vehicle is brand new. But what if you’re already an Acura owner and you’re keen to get into a 2019 RDX? Acura is right now offering those owners, or those currently driving a 2009-or-later Audi Q5 or Lexus RX, two of the RDX’s biggest competitors, $1,000 bonus cash. This reduces the monthly lease payment by $30. But if you really want the best deal, then go for deal on the outgoing 2018 RDX: $299/month for 36 months plus $2,499 due at signing.

2017 Acura RLX Review

The RLX sits at the top of the Acura sedan model range and since its introduction in 2014 has been a luxurious and well-specced alternative to the usual suspects in this competitive category. For 2017 the base trim level has been dropped along with some minor trim changes.

What’s it like inside?

The Acura suffers from a nondescript exterior design and this extends into the cabin too. The quality of the materials is of a high standard but the dashboard layout, switchgear and general ambience does not match the more modern design aesthetics of its rivals.

Passenger space is excellent both in the front and rear, the seats are not the best in the business though and do not offer enough lateral support in corners or enough padding for longer trips. The trunk space is also slightly below average for the class but adequate for most needs.

How does it drive?

The Acura is a competent handler, tackling challenging roads in a generally unflustered manner. It does not exhibit the kind of cornering talent its German rivals offer but unless this is a top priority for you the RLX feels safe and planted in most driving situations. The Sport Hybrid adds all-wheel drive and extra power into the mix which improves the handling in slippery situations.

Save for some road noise from the standard 19-inch wheels, the smooth drivetrain and hushed cabin make for a relaxed atmosphere. Those 19-inch alloys also tend to keep the ride on the firm side although it is acceptable for a luxury sport sedan.

What about the performance?

The RLX is offered with two drivetrain options. The first is a 3.5-liter V6 which produces 310 hp and 272 lb ft of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels through a smooth-shifting 6-speed automatic transmission.

Acceleration is strong throughout the rev-range and even though the RLX does not set any new performance standards in its class it is still quick with a 0-60 mph time in the low 6-second range. Fuel economy is also middle of the pack although the second drivetrain option offers much improved consumption figures, especially if you do a lot of city driving.

The RLX Sport Hybrid adds 3 electric motors to the base V6 to produce a combined 377 hp along with 347 lb ft of torque. A 7-speed dual-clutch transmission replaces the 6-speed automatic and thanks to 2 of those electric motors powering the rear wheels, the Sport Hybrid is all-wheel drive too. The electric motors cut in and out imperceptibly and overall performance is improved over the standard RLX. While highway mpg remains unchanged at 30 for both models, the hybrid model is potentially far less thirsty around town where it offers 29 mpg versus 20 for the base RLX.

What are my options?

The Acura RLX has dropped the lowest level trim from last year so the Technology Package inherits that tag and the Advance Package remains as the top trim level. Both RLX and RLX Sport Hybrid are available with the same trim and equipment levels with one exception being a standard head-up display in the hybrid cars.

The Technology trim makes the base RLX a very well-equipped car. Keyless ignition, sunroof, powered and heated front seats, 19-inch alloys and leather upholstery are all standard. A rearview camera and audio system with Bluetooth, smartphone integration, USB connectivity and satellite radio are also included.

Safety systems are a strong point in the RLX range with the standard AcuraWatch incorporating driver assistance features such as lane assist, road departure mitigation, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control and collision mitigation braking system.

The Advance package offers a Krell 14-speaker audio system, Ventilated front seats, heated rear seats and steering wheel, power rear sunshade, manual rear side shades, surround-view camera system and all-round parking sensors.

Individual options such as a remote start engine system, woodgrain trim, engine block heater and cargo net are also available.

The Verdict

With minor changes taking place in 2017, the RLX remains a spacious, well-equipped and very safe luxury sedan vehicle. It may not offer the design flair or overt sportiness of some rivals but it offers a smooth and unflustered drive and the hybrid version adds praiseworthy fuel economy too.

Owner Selling Old And New Acura NSX: Which Would You Buy?

It's more than a black or white decision.

With some sports cars – say, the Porsche 911 or Chevrolet Corvette, for example – choosing which version can be the most difficult part. Not so much for the Acura NSX, which has only been produced in two essential iterations, and with few derivatives or substantial options to speak of. That leaves anyone looking to pick up an example of Honda's supercar with one choice to make, above all else: old or new?

That's the choice bidders will face next month at LA's famous Petersen Automotive Museum, where RM Sotheby's will be holding its next auction.

Among the tempting lots on the docket for the Petersen sale are two examples of the NSX, consigned by the same owner.

In one corner, we have a rather pristine black-on-black '91 NSX – a splendid example of the original, made in its first year of production, still retained by its original owner, and showing just 6,000 miles from new. It packs a 3.0-liter naturally aspirated V6 with VTEC, mounted amidships in a world-first aluminum monocoque chassis, sending 270 hp to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission, with superb handling balance honed by the legendary Ayrton Senna.

In the other, its modern successor: a 2017 NSX, the 223th of 581 examples made (also in its first year of production), in Casino White Pearl with a black interior. That same single owner has only put 2,700 miles on it since taking delivery last year. At its heart is a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, paired to a trio of electric motors to send 573 hp (more than twice the original's output) to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic.

The auctioneer estimates the '91 model to fetch around $90-110k, and the new one about $125-150k when the gavel drops on December 8. For your money, which would you choose?

2018 Acura RLX Sport Hybrid Review

The Acura RLX has been around since 2013 – but rather than replacing it soon, for 2018 the RLX gets a host of upgrades to its styling and finishing touches to keep it fresh. But some things remain the same, like the RLX Sport Hybrid, that uses technologies derived from the NSX supercar to create a hybrid sedan with the efficiency benefits of electricity, and the performance benefits too. All-wheel drive, all-wheel steering, a few extra gear ratios, and three electric motors – the similarities drive suggestions that this may be the closest thing you could get to a four-door NSX.

Interior

Large entryways both front and rear aid ingress and egress to the RLX Hybrid – particularly for rear passengers. Inside, the rear passengers will find plenty of space, with leg and head room on par for the segment. Redesigned front seats feature high-contrast stitching and piping, and are comfortable and supportive, though the low dash impedes knee space for drivers with longer legs. The interior now has the option of a new Espresso interior color scheme. Cargo capacity loses a few cubes compared to the non-hybrid RLX, sitting at 11.6 cubic feet compared to the standard model’s 14.9 cu ft.

The dual-screen infotainment and control systems are complex and unintuitive. One screen features touch controls; the other requires controls via a controller input. The lack of actual buttons to handle climate control is once again a problem that seems to plague Acura and Honda models.

Driving (Ride and Handling)

The Hybrid RLX features Acura’s alphabet-soup all-wheel drive – SH SH-AWD – Sport Hybrid Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive system shared with the NSX supercar. Two of the three electric motors operate independently on each rear wheel to actuate genuine torque vectoring with individual wheel speeds. The vectoring mitigates understeer and sharpens turn-in; both initial and mid-corner when directional changes are required. Additionally, grip levels are impressively high – though they’re needed more so thanks to the increased weight of the RLX Sport Hybrid.

Though the sportier of two models, the RLX Sport Hybrid offers a suppler ride than its non-hybrid sibling. The additional weight settles the car nicely, but the suspension remains firm enough to offer decent support and good rebound damping over broken surfaces. There is still some wallow through corners, though, where rival cars are more steady and lean-resistant. It’s an average handler in segment, and the lack of steering feedback doesn’t inspire confidence.

Performance (Engine and Transmission)

Under the hood and driving the front wheels of the Acura RLX Sport Hybrid, you’ll find a 3.5-liter V6 generating 310 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. But it’s paired with three electric motors – two on the rear wheels and one attached to new Honda-developed 10-speed automatic gearbox – that bump the combined outputs up to 377hp and 341 lb-ft. Acura are quiet about performance figures for the Hybrid, but with the FWD model springing 0-60mph in 5.8 seconds, the RLX Sport Hybrid should achieve sub-5 seconds thanks to the all-wheel drive system and electric torque boost.

Equipment and Safety

The RLX can be had in either a Technology Package or Advance Package trim – both of which are exceptionally specced. The Technology Package includes heated front seats, keyless access, and electronic tilt and telescopic adjustment on the steering wheel, while the Advance Package adds ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and power rear sunshades. From a safety perspective, all models feature blind spot monitoring, ABS with EBD, adaptive cruise, lane keep assist, and automated emergency braking with heads up warning earning the RLX a 2017 IIHS Top Safety Pick status.

Verdict

The added electric boost and the torque vectoring technology it brings make the RLX an adept handler, but it isn’t really a four-door NSX Still, it’s well equipped at a decent price – and it’s worth a look at if you fancy tech and comfort above brilliant driving dynamics.

2019 Acura ILX Offers A Lot More For Much Less

From $25,900, the subcompact luxury sedan is over $2k cheaper than last year.

Acura has rolled out a substantial array of upgrades to the ILX for 2019, not the least of which is a more attractive beak. But instead of increasing the price, it's actually cut it. And not by an insignificant amount, either.

Pricing just released for the 2019 Acura ILX starts at $25,900 – plus a $995 destination charge to bring the cost of admission to $26,895. That's $2,200 less than the 2018 model. And the savings only grow as you go up the list: opt for the top ILX A-Spec with the Technology Package and you'll be looking at $31,550 ($32,545 delivered), representing a $3,550 discount.

The new pricing substantially undercuts the competition in the entry-luxury segment, like the Audi A3 sedan (which starts at $31,950) and the Mercedes CLA ($33,100) soon to be joined by the new A-Class sedan. And it puts the ILX within spitting distance of the Buick Regal Sportback, which starts just $920 less at $25,070.

What's more is that, despite the chopped price, you get a better car for your money than the model it replaces. It comes packed with technology, like LED head- and taillights, the AcuraWatch suite of driver-assistance and safety systems (which now comes standard), and the available On-Demand Multi-Use Display 2.0 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.

All this is packed inside revised sheetmetal, capped by the new Diamond Pentagon grille, and a redesigned rump. And the revised A-Spec trim makes it look even sportier both inside and out.

Power comes from a 2.4-liter inline-four, channeling 201 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Buyers will also be able to spec the Premium and Technology packages and choose between seven exterior colors – five of which are new for 2019 – along with three interior colorways (and another two for the A-Spec). Deliveries begin next week on October 10.

2018 Acura MDX Sport Hybrid Review

The Acura MDX Hybrid is a strong offering in the luxury mid-sized SUV sector and its hybrid drivetrain both enhances economy and performance levels. For 2018 the MDX Hybrid now offers an updated infotainment system.

What’s it like inside?

The interior of the MDX Hybrid is well up to the class standards, it features high quality materials and a very well-built cabin with seating for 7 occupants. Some cheap bits of plastic trim seem out of place but most of the controls and switchgear impart a feeling of solidity and quality.

The front seats are superbly comfortable and perfect for longer trips, the second row still offers decent head and legroom with similar levels of comfort. The third row is tighter than in most competitors and is best suited for occasional use. Both rear rows are foldable (60/40 for the second row and 50/50 for the third row) to add to the already decent cargo space.

How does it drive?

The MDX Hybrid is a big departure from the usual uninspiring handling dynamics inherent in most hybrids. It feels sharp and agile through a set of corners and thanks to its standard all-wheel drive setup, has plenty of grip when the road conditions get slippery. Pure electric motoring is possible at city speeds and the transition between the gasoline and electric powerplants is seamless.

The ride is firm but offers decent bump absorption over most surfaces, the standard adaptive dampers offer driver selectable settings to soften the ride over rough pavement. The all-wheel drive system is road-biased without some of the off-road options such as hill descent control that rivals offer, but the raised ride-height should make the MDX more than capable in most casual off-road excursions.

What about the performance?

The Acura MDX Hybrid is fitted with a 3.0-liter V6 which combined with three electric motors pushes out 321 horsepower and 289 lb-ft of torque. Both higher figures than the gasoline powered version and performance figures are better too.

The Hybrid MDX is all-wheel drive only and is available with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, it completes the 60mph benchmark sprint in around 6.5-seconds which is very good for the this segment and the pick-up from standstill feels strong thanks to the assistance of the electric motors.

Another benefit over the gasoline powered MDX are significantly enhanced fuel economy figures, especially if you spend the majority of your time in stop-start traffic. City driving averages out at 26mpg while highway trips see you get 27mpg. The 3.5-liter gasoline engine offers 18/26 mpg.

What are my options?

There are two trim options to choose from in the Hybrid MDX.

The Technology trim offers a number of notable items such as power front seats with heating and memory function, leather interior, multi-zone climate control, power adjustable steering wheel and a power liftgate.

LED headlights, sunroof and an adaptive suspension are also included as are an updated infotainment system with dual screens, navigation, integrated smartphone capability, Bluetooth, USB ports and a 10-speaker premium audio system.

Safety systems include adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear-cross traffic alert, forward collision and lane departure warning as well as autonomous braking.

The Advance Trim adds Sports seats with enhanced leather trim and ventilation for the front row, heated second row seats, surround camera system and parking sensors and LED fog lights.

The Verdict

The Acura MDX is an accomplished mid-sized luxury SUV, a high-quality interior, excellent driving dynamics and strong performance place it near the top of its class. Add the hybrid drivetrain however and the MDX becomes even more compelling, economy and performance levels receive a welcome boost and the all-wheel drivetrain enhances handling even further.

It may not be the class leader in all segments but the few flaws it has aren’t enough to take away from the fact that the Acura MDX Hybrid is one of the best sporting hybrid SUVs on the market.

Acura TSX Sports Wagon Debut at 2010 New York Auto Show

Acura is set to unveil its new 2011 Acura TSX Sports Wagon during the 2010 New York Auto Show. Unlike the sport wagons of yesterday, the TSX Sports Wagon appears to have been designed with weekend vacationers and golfers in mind. The five-passenger model features a large cargo space that has a removal side panel to make room for wider items. The TSX Sports Wagon isn't without the usual technology.

It sports a hard-drive based navigation system with real-time traffic and weather, and unlike the TSX sedan, the wagon will be available with only one powertrain, the 2.4-liter, 201-hp, five-speed automatic. The wagon's fuel economy is also unchanged from the sedan's 21 mpg city/30mpg highway numbers.

2018 Acura NSX Expert Car Review

Most passenger cars and SUVs with diesel engines in 2010 are German-manufactured. The Mercedes Benz E-Class is a series of cars manufactured by Mercedes Benz. A 2013 survey by Fortune India magazine recognized Mercedes Benz as India鈥檚 鈥楳ost Admired Company鈥? MARCH 2009 -- Mercedes Benz is recalling 16,130 MY 2009 M-Class W164 passenger vehicles equipped with theoptional power lift gate. Updated 08/25/2015: Automotive News reports that the new C63 and C63 S Coupe will be quite a bit more expensive than the outgoing 2013 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe, although it will also come with more power and features. Visually, the E63 AMG follows the form of its more pedestrian E-Class sedan brethren. The four different AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs "Comfort," "Sport," "Sport Plus" and "Individual" allow the driver to extensively influence the characteristics of the E63. The C63 AMG Saloon is a very sporty car making it an excellent choice in car for business and pleasure. Other notable features in this sports car include the high-performance technologies of ceramic brakes.

Even though this is strictly a drag race video, the South African reviewers still can't resist pointing out that the RS5 feels more like a GT than a sports car. This is the first car which does not have a single light bulb in it. In the old 500E鈥擬ercedes' first supersedan鈥攐ur day would have been punctuated by slipping and sliding. Another pet peeve is people "forgetting" their library card; I don't care that they "know the number," everything is much easier with a physical card since we have scanners, so keystrokes and related errors are avoidable. But in the Philippines, they're not that much popular until the mid-00's. Much initial attention was given to the current Jetta's rear suspension, which was demoted to a less sophisticated torsion-beam setup except in the GLI and SportWagen. The new Mercedes-AMG C63 will land Down Under in Sedan, Estate, Coupe and Cabriolet guises in September 2018. Pricing has not yet been announced, but don鈥檛 expect it to budge too much from current levels. The new Ford Taurus builds on a legacy of safety, as the current model earned an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick rating. There lots more about this new model.
