All Model 163 and 164 Vehicles
Paint Damage on Tailgate
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of bodyshell complaints regarding the tailgate, check if the complaints fit the
descriptions below and proceed with the applicable described remedy.

Condition A - Model 164: Corrosion or chafe marks in the area of the handle strip
1. Remove handle strip, referring to WIS document AR 72.20-P-3650GZA.
2. Deburr handle opening in tailgate.
3. For chafe marks, use a touch up paint pen. Proceed with step 7.
4. For corrosion, thoroughly remove the corrosion and clean treated areas with silicone remover.
5. Restore the paintwork structure in accordance with the specifications of the paint supplier (below the window).
6. Stick pre-stamped protective foils on liftgate.
7. Replace threaded stud and apply preservation agent to the inside of the liftgate before reassembling. Finish by installing remaining parts on the
liftgate.
Condition B - Model 164: Paint blistering on the liftgate (Figure 1)
1. Check liftgate for other defective areas.
2. Sand damaged areas down to bare steel.
3. Restore the paintwork structure in accordance with the specifications of the paint supplier.
Note:
The application gun specifications viewed by following the menu path: Netstar --> StarTek Info --> MB Equipment --> SSEP catalog. This
item can be ordered from the Standard Service Equipment Program.
Condition C - Model 163: Corrosion in Area of Rear Door Handle Strip
1. Remove the license plate.
2. Remove handle strip. Refer to WIS document AR72.20-P-3650GH.
3. Remove corrosion from the area of the handle strip (Figure 2, A. circle).

4. Paint the rear door. Refer to WIS AR98.00-P-0200-08D.
5. Before installing handle strip on rear door, apply preservation wax. Refer to WIS document AR97.20-P-0500A.
6. Apply protective foils to the rear door see (Figure 3, 2) to prevent the handle from chaffing on the paint.
7. Reassemble in reverse order.
Note:
Replacement of the lift gate is permissible if there is deterioration of the sheet metal of more than 1.5 mm or rust through damage over a
length of 3cm in the area of the handle cutout (Figure 4)
