SUBJECT

Slow Power Window Operation

MODEL

R50 (Cooper) and R53 (Cooper S) up to 08/04

SITUATION

The customer may complain that the power window moves at an unacceptably slow rate or may not be operated.

CAUSE 1

Excessive internal friction in the drive motor caused by insufficient lubrication and/or the adjusting screw profile.

Cause 2:

The overload protection switch has been activated. In this case, the window cannot be operated at all, until given time to cool down.

CORRECTION 1 (INTERNAL FRICTION)

In case of customer complaint, replace the affected drive motor. Replacement parts will have the proper lubrication and improved screw profile.

CORRECTION 2 (OVERLOAD PROTECTION)

Do not replace any parts and please explain to the customer of the built-in overload protection feature intended to avoid motor damage due to

overheating. This feature will be activated by a combination of repeated use and climatic conditions.

PROCEDURE 1 (INTERNAL FRICTION)

If the window is operating slowly or not moving at all, and does not appear to be caused by the overload protection activation, please replace the

motor per Repair Instruction RA 6762000.

PROCEDURE 2 (OVERLOAD PROTECTION)

If the overload protection appears to have been activated, do not replace any parts. This is a normal function of this system.
