What is Full Self-Driving capability in Tesla Model 3?

If you are a fan of Tesla, you probably have heard of the term "Full Self-Driving" or FSD for short. But what does it really mean and how does it work in the Tesla Model 3? In this blog post, I will explain everything you need to know about this amazing feature that can make your driving experience more convenient, safe and fun!

FSD is a software package that enables your Tesla Model 3 to perform a range of autonomous driving functions, such as navigating on highways, changing lanes, parking, stopping at traffic lights and signs, and even driving to your destination without any input from you. FSD is not the same as fully autonomous driving, which means that the car can handle all situations without human intervention. FSD still requires you to pay attention and be ready to take over at any time, as it is not perfect and may encounter scenarios that it cannot handle.

To use FSD, you need to have the FSD computer (also known as Hardware 3) installed in your Tesla Model 3, which is a powerful processor that can process the data from the cameras, radar and ultrasonic sensors around the car. You also need to purchase the FSD software package, which costs $10,000 as of November 2023. The FSD software package includes features such as Navigate on Autopilot, Auto Lane Change, Autopark, Smart Summon, Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control, and FSD Beta.

FSD Beta is the most advanced and exciting feature of FSD, as it allows your Tesla Model 3 to drive on city streets and handle complex situations such as intersections, roundabouts, pedestrians, cyclists and more. FSD Beta is currently available only to a select group of Tesla owners who have signed up for the Early Access Program and agreed to share their feedback and data with Tesla. FSD Beta is still in development and may not work as expected in some cases, so you need to be extra careful and attentive when using it.

FSD is a game-changer for Tesla and the future of transportation. It can make your driving experience more enjoyable, comfortable and efficient. It can also reduce accidents, emissions and traffic congestion. FSD is constantly improving with over-the-air software updates that add new features and enhancements. FSD is not only a feature, but a vision that Tesla is working hard to achieve: a world where cars can drive themselves and humans can focus on other things.
