2019 Porsche Cayenne Platinum Edition




Porsche is upgrading the Cayenne six-cylinder model via a special series known as the Platinum Edition. The Platinum Edition Cayenne and Cayenne Diesel models feature some especially high-quality equipment and offer many of the most-requested options as standard. Externally, the special status of these models is demonstrated by the numerous detailed paint finishes in Platinum Silver Metallic, while an elegant ambience has been created in the interior with exclusive two-tone fittings. Porsche only assigns the Platinum Edition designation to its exclusive, elegant vehicle ranges that are available for a limited period only. The enhanced equipment range available in these vehicles is designed to increase comfort and safety in particular. For example, the Cayenne Platinum Edition models feature the eight-gear Tiptronic S, Bi-Xenon main headlights and Power Steering Plus, as well as the ParkAssist system at the front and rear as standard. The automatic anti-dazzle interior mirrors eliminate the dazzle from traffic behind the vehicle and the privacy glazing (also available as standard) protects the rear passengers from unwanted attention.

The vehicles come with a partial leather interior as standard, but a full leather interior is also available as an option. The floor mats, with Luxor Beige edging and Porsche logo, and the front door entry guards with the "Platinum Edition" logo, represent further highlights. The standard SportDesign steering wheel with shift paddles and the embossed Porsche crest on the headrests at the front and rear emphasise the high quality of the vehicle. The Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system, including a navigation module, is also a standard feature: The PCM includes a high-resolution seven-inch touchscreen and a sound system with 11 loudspeakers and total power of 235 watt. The Cayenne Platinum Edition offers an output of 300 hp (220 kW). In combination with the Tiptronic S, the vehicle's NEDC fuel consumption is 9.9 litres/100 km (236 g/km CO2). The three litre V6 engine in the Cayenne Diesel Platinum Edition offers an output of 245 hp (180 kW) and a fuel consumption level of 7.2 litres of diesel over 100 kilometres (189 g/km CO2). The Cayenne Platinum Edition costs 鈧?6,379 and it is 鈧?7,212 for the Cayenne Diesel Platinum Edition (including VAT).





On the safety front, standard systems include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning with steering assist, automatic high beam and road sign assist. Available active safety and convenience features are adaptive full speed cruise control, blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert and rear-end collision warning. As for the infotainment part, the 2020 Supra brings a standard 6.5-inch display operated by a rotary controller on the center console. The 3.0 Premium grade gets an 8.8-inch touchscreen display with navigation, rotary touch controller, Supra Connect telematics services, wireless Apple CarPlay, a premium 12-speaker JBL audio system, and wireless phone charging. 55,250 for the Launch Edition, which will be the sole trim level initially available in a limited run of 1,500 units. Sales in the U.S. Launch Edition will be offered in Absolute Zero White, Nocturnal Black or Renaissance Red 2.0 paint jobs, with contrasting red mirror caps and 19-inch black matte forged alloys. Although it鈥檚 been quite some time since Aston Martin had a six-cylinder in its range, it appears that the upcoming Aston Martin DBX crossover could be offered with a six-cylinder engine. During a recent event with Australian media, chief creative officer Marek Reichman suggested that a six-cylinder engine from Mercedes-Benz could suit the DBX quite well. While it remains to be seen which Mercedes six-cylinder Aston Martin could be given access to, one likely powertrain would be the M256 turbocharged 3.0-liter petrol inline six recently introduced with a 48-volt mild hybrid system. While this powertrain isn鈥檛 as exciting as the V8 and V12s currently used by Aston, it can produce upwards of 382 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque, figures more than adequate for everyday use. While it remains to be seen whether Aston Martin will opt to use such an engine, we do know for sure that the DBX will be the marque鈥檚 first model to be available with a hybrid powertrain. According to the most recent reports, this variant could pair AMG鈥檚 twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 with an electric motor offering up 200 hp. Combined, this could give the hybrid DBX more than 700 hp, making it even more powerful than the Lamborghini Urus. At least one other traditional gasoline-powered model will join the potential six-cylinder DBX. This powertrain will either be the 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 used by the DB11 and producing roughly 600 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque in DBX guise or the aforementioned AMG twin-turbo V8 but without any electrical assist.

The 2018 Porsche Macan gets a new cabin air filter and an updated instrument cluster display that shows cabin air circulation. The mid-level Macan GTS splits the difference between the Macan S and Turbo but also provides an even more driver-centric experience just like every GTS model. In terms of handling, the Macan GTS is superior to the other models in the lineup including the more powerful Macan Turbo thanks to its superior suspension setup. On the road, we noted in a 2017 First Test that the Macan GTS drives just like one would expect out of a Porsche, offering confident handling and quick acceleration with its twin-turbo V-6. However, some issues caused the Macan GTS to place third in a recent comparison test to the Mercedes-AMG GLC43 and the Jaguar F-Pace S, which was the winner. Its cabin, for instance is cramped and the seats give up too much comfort in the name of sporty driving, and it felt out of its element on the highway. Surprisingly the Macan GTS鈥?twin-clutch automatic isn鈥檛 as polished as it is on other Porsche vehicles, shifting harshly and sometimes interrupting power delivery. The twin-turbo V-6 also suffers from turbo lag and runs out of power the closer you get to its redline.

I say formidable because, as its 0.99 g of max lateral accel suggests, it delivers tenacious grip. The "party trick," as Lieberman notes, is the sports rear differential. That said, the RS 5 does relay its mass to the driver more than the 507 does. The Audi always feels glued to the road, but you feel the weight transfer between the big 275/40R20 Pirellis as you work the car to "unglue" it through turns. The Benz, conversely, at 0.91 g of max lateral acceleration, just glides along the road, coming across lighter and nimbler. It should be noted, too, that the 507's sport seats and driving position were rated above the Audi's. Under aggressive braking, especially when the brake zone featured bumps or slight bends, the Audi proved more stable, staying flatter and exhibiting less drama. Both registered curt 60-0 stopping distances: 103 feet for the C63 and 104 feet for the RS 5. That's not to say the C63 didn't offer great brake feel.





With lovely, high engagement that allowed gentle breathing on the pedal to start the slowdown process, yet prodigious bite when really needed, the Benz's binders were nothing short of excellent. Ditto for its 6.2-liter. Man, what a motor. Revs above 7000 rpm, yet has massive low-end grunt and sounds like a '60s musclecar. And keeping the Audi's tach needle where it needs to be couldn't be easier, mostly b ecause you don't have to do anything. The S tronic intuitively does it for you, whether performing seamless shifts in Drive or firing off millisecond gear changes in Sport. Simply put, it's a noticeably better transmission than the Benz's MCT. Thus, there's no surprise the RS 5's 0-60 (3.9 seconds) and quarter mile (12.3 seconds at 112.2 mph) runs were just a tenth behind the C63's (3.8, 12.2 at 117.4, respectively). With the 507 emerging as our road favorite, it was time to hit the track with our resident racer Randy Pobst to see if it could maintain its thin margin over the Audi. Pobst went out in the Merc first and set a fast lap of 1:43.45 around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca's challenging 2.21 miles.





You could say that. Given how high Randy was on the 507, we figured the less powerful, heavier RS 5 had no shot. We couldn't have been more wrong. Posting a best lap of 1:42.97, it was 0.48 second quicker, but Randy's comments suggested more like 4.8 seconds. Indeed, Pobst was able to dive deeper into the corners in the Audi and then carry more speed through the turns. That's where the Benz lost time, albeit not that much. Had it not been for the 507's underhood advantages, which gave it the drop exiting corners and on straightaway Vmax, the RS 5 would have extended the gap. The RS 5 is a balanced blend of rally car, road racer, and GT, and in many ways it's the cooler, more desirable machine. Its stance is meaner and stronger -- the sheetmetal seemingly shrink-wrapped over the five-blade 20s -- while the Benz looks like it's a big engine stuffed into a small car. And seeing the RS 5's bold mug, with the big black grille and brake ducts, in the 507's rearview makes you want to switch driver's seats.





Then there are the Audi's screaming V-8, quick-firing DCT, Quattro AWD, and superior track time. But the 507 is more fluid on winding roads than the RS 5, which feels robotic in comparison -- like going from an analog 911 to a digital GT-R -- and it's certainly no slouch at the track. The Audi might be quicker up and down a mountain and around Laguna, but it's more of a ride-along. The Benz is engaging, inviting you to join in and experience the party. And we always prefer being the life of the party. Now here's a really interesting matchup. If you take a quick glance at the speed-versus-distance plot above, you'd assume the Mercedes-Benz was the walkaway winner. Just look at how much more steeply it accelerates on the longer straights and its frequently higher speeds between the corners. How could it lose? Look more closely. Into Turn 2, the Audi brakes later and much harder. In Turns 3, 4, and 11, it corners slightly faster and is substantially quicker through Turn 6, a corner that's a real test of confidence in a car. And looking even more closely, the Audi gets its power down fractionally better out of Turns 2 and 9 as well. By the end of the lap, the Audi has squeaked out a win with a margin that's less than half a second. And around a road course such as Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, braking power and cornering confidence can combine to trump a power advantage like the Mercedes has.





No company has done more for the cause of the high-performance small car in recent years than Mercedes-Benz, or more specifically, the AMG high-performance division of Mercedes-Benz. The first C-Class to carry an AMG performance package was the six-cylinder C36 back in 1993, followed by the C43, the company's first V8 effort, in 2000, and in 2005, the C55 V8. The 2012 C63 AMG is powered by a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 engine rated at 451 horsepower and 443 foot-pounds of torque, with a 0-60 time of 4.4 seconds, according to Mercedes-Benz. For 2012, that same powertrain is available in the coupe body, making it the most powerful C-Class coupe ever built. It more or less replaces the previous AMG coupe, the CLK 63 AMG, in the performance coupe lineup. As with the E63 sedan, there is an optional AMG package that raises engine power to 481 horsepower, raises the electronically limited top speed form 155 to 174 mph, and lowers the 0-60 time by a tenth of a second.

For the first time, Mercedes-Benz is offering the sporty SLK Roadster with a diesel engine. The 150 kW (204 hp) four-cylinder power unit puts the two-seater at the top of its class in numerous respects. With a fuel consumption of 4.9 litres per 100 kilometres, it is the most economical roadster in its segment. Thanks to its enormous torque of 500 newton metres it accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds, and delivers a top figure for acceleration from 80 to 120 km/h. The result is superior driving enjoyment both on winding country roads and on long motorway stretches. Like the other models in the latest SLK family, which was presented in January 2011, it combines lively sportiness with high-quality appointments and excellent comfort. Diesel drive and roadster excitement do not go together - or so a common misconception would have it. Mercedes-Benz impressively demonstrates the contrary with the new Mercedes-Benz SLK250 CDI.


Its four-cylinder diesel engine with a displacement of 2143 cc generates an output of 150 kW (204 hp) and 500 newton metres of torque - as much as a petrol engine with twice the displacement would normally generate. This makes the new Mercedes-Benz SLK250 CDI the most powerful diesel model in its class, and gives the roadster the potential for extremely sporty performance. Equipped with the standard 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission (a six-speed manual transmission will follow in the second quarter of 2012), the diesel SLK sprints from zero to 100km/h in 6.7 seconds and achieves a top speed of 243 km/h.
