P0650 Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Control Circuit Malfunction

The OBD-II trouble code P0650 indicates a malfunction in the control circuit of the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) in the vehicle.

The MIL, also known as the Check Engine Light, is a warning light on the dashboard that illuminates when there is a fault detected by the vehicle's on-board diagnostics system (OBD-II). The MIL control circuit is responsible for controlling the illumination of the MIL and communicating fault codes to the driver.

A malfunction in the MIL control circuit can cause a variety of issues, such as the MIL not illuminating when there is a fault detected, or the MIL remaining illuminated even when there is no fault detected. Additionally, a malfunction in the MIL control circuit can prevent the driver from being able to retrieve diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) using an OBD-II scan tool.

In order to diagnose and repair the issue, a qualified technician will need to use specialized diagnostic equipment to communicate with the vehicle's OBD-II system and identify the root cause of the MIL control circuit malfunction. The technician may need to test the wiring and connectors associated with the MIL control circuit, as well as perform tests on the MIL itself.

Once the root cause of the issue is identified, the technician may need to repair or replace the MIL, repair or replace the wiring and connectors associated with the MIL control circuit, or repair or replace the vehicle's on-board diagnostics system if it is determined that the MIL control circuit in the OBD-II system is at fault.

It is important to address these issues promptly, as a malfunctioning MIL can prevent the driver from being alerted to potential issues with the vehicle, which can lead to further damage or safety issues.
