Complaint:
In the event of complaints concerning the weight sensing system (WSS) or the right front seat adjuster with WSS which necessitate the replacement
of the seat adjuster, please note the following.
The seat adjuster with integrated WSS sensors (pin system) installed up to model year 09 is no longer available through the parts service.
Only the new generation of WSS system (bladder system) is now available as in model series 216, and conversion is necessary.
Cause:
Conversion to new generation of WSS system.
Remedy:
Check which system is installed in the vehicle: pin system (PIC101) or bladder system (PIC102). The check is necessary only up to VIN A258661!
If the pin system is installed, the seat adjuster must be replaced together with the control unit bracket and the seat cushion parts kit.
The seat cushion parts kit has the sensor system for the WSS system already installed.
Note:
The electrical connections must not be separated!
1. Note before installation: Make sure that the sensor mat is properly clipped in place (PIC103). The electrical lines must not be separated!
2. Fix control unit bracket at the specified points (PIC104).
3. Place foam pad with covering and sensor system on cushion shell and pass the lines through the sine spring (PIC105).
4. Observe routing of lines and fastening points (PIC106 to PIC110).
5. From here on, reassemble and reinstall the seat in the usual way. Note: Observe correct bolt tightening sequence!
6. Perform initial startup of WSS system. (A password will be needed from MBUSA Helpdesk or TAC )
7. If they see the question: "Do you now want to check the fault memory for any current faults?" then press F4 ( = NO)
8. If they see the question: "Continue initial startup despite present fault?" then press F3 ( = YES)
9. Then they have to change the ecu coding via the menu "Special functions" within the SRS main menu.
10. Select the menu "Seat mat type 'Passenger'" and set it to "WSS Bladder Delphi".
11. Start the coding with F3 and follow the instructions.
12. Switch off / on ignition at least once and then erase the fault memory. The SRS lamp should be off now.
