Complaint:
  343
Noise complaints when load on backrest frame changes.
Affects the driver and front passenger seats.
Also perform the remedial action if you are performing work on
- Backrest frame (91013),
- Backrest cover (91A15, 91N15) or
- Head restraint guide rail (91A33, 91N33).
The actions must always be performed if the backrest frame is exposed to avoid follow-up repairs.

Cause:
1. Affects all vehicles (see Figures 1, 2, 3).
1. At low temperatures (- C°), natural vibrations of the lordosis basket can result in damage to the guide wire when a person sits down in the seat.
2. Only affects vehicles produced up to September 05 (see Figure 4).
2. The Pulmaflex mat rubs on the attachment points on the backrest frame (2 attachment points on the right and 2 on the left).
3. Affects model series CL203 and 209 (see Figures 5, 6) Relative movement can produce noise problems at the bottom of the backrest.
4. Affects all vehicles of model series 211 and 219 (see Figure 7)
Noises may occur in the backrest under load due to the incorrect positioning of the circlip.
Remedy:
Note:
Even if just one of the complaints exists, you should always implement the other measures (i.e. measures 1, 2, 3 and 4), regardless of whether or not
the customer complains about these. The aim is to ensure that the customer does not return another time with complaints about noise from the seat.
Please note the restrictions, e.g. model series and production date, and implement the relevant measures. Measures are to be performed with the seat
installed.
1. First, proceed as follows (see step 1. Affects all vehicles):
- Reproduce noise caused when a person sits in seat at low temperatures.
- Remove seat-back lining - Refer to WIS document AR91.10-P-1910P (203, 209), AR91.10-P-1910CW (204), AR91.10-P-1910T (211 up to
MY05), AR91.10-P-1910TB (211 as of MY 05) or AR91.10-P-1910TX (219)
- Check whether guide wires are damaged at points where they intersect with lumbar support basket (on both right and left side). (Figure 1-
Lordosenkorb 1.pdf.)
- If guide wire is slightly damaged (Figure 2- Leichte Besch鋎igung.pdf), the damaged area must be coated with following agent: Krytox.
- If guide wire is seriously damaged (Figure 3- Starke Besch鋎igung.pdf), the damaged areas on the Pulmaflex mat must be rubbed down with
emery cloth, wrapped with Coroplast tape (commercially available plastic adhesive tape) and coated with Krytox.
2. Then also perform step 2 for all vehicles produced up to September 05 (see AR91.10-P-3332T):
- Detach backrest lining (already detached in step 1)
  344
- Remove sidebag unit
- Detach Pulmaflex mat from attachment points on backrest frame
- Attach one piece of felt to each attachment point (2 on the right and 2 on the left) The exact positions are the points marked in red in the
illustration "Felting of backrest frame".
The felt must be treated with Krytox beforehand.
- After applying the felt pieces, reattach the Pulmaflex mat.
Object number of felt to be used: A0019835110
Dimensions: 25 mm wide and 2 mm thick.
3. For model series CL203 and 209 also perform the following measures:
- Seat-back lining still removed (see Figure 5). The seat is in installed position in the vehicle.
- Detach covering and spray the rivets (see Figure 6) in area between side section of frame and crossmember with grease A002 989 06 51.
4. The following measure must be implemented on all vehicles of model series 211 and 219:
Check the alignment of the circlip on the head restraint guide sleeve and correct it if necessary as shown in Figure 7 "Position of circlip".
After reattaching the cover and the seat-back lining, sit in the seat to check whether the noises are produced.
