Complaint:
As of model year 2010 216/221 NTG 3.5 Telematics system, a new SPLITVIEW feature is implemented.
Cause:
A new feature which requires a special COMAND display, wiring harness and version coding of the COMAND.
Overview:
With MY 2010 NTG 3.5 Telematics systems, a new SPLITVIEW for the Front- Seat Entertainment system will be implemented starting with
vehicles produced as of January 2010 equipped with Option Code for this feature is 867. The SPLITVIEW allows the driver and front passenger to
view two different sources on the same screen. While the driver is using the radio or navigation system, the front passenger can view a DVD video
on the very same display screen all while the vehicle is moving.
Legal Note:
All vehicles equipped with SPLITVIEW will arrive with this feature de-activated from the factory. Activation will occur as outlined during the
Pre-Delivery Inspection process with use of a STAR Diagnosis System (SDS). The SDS will advise the Dealer of the state legal requirements, and
the feature can only then be activated by acknowledging compliance with the requirements. The Dealer is responsible for ensuring proper activation.
Remedy:
This document is for information only. There is NO action required at this time. All of the functionality is controlled by DAS. Please note that any
retrofits, upgrades or labor CANNOT be claimed under warranty.
The all-new SPLITVIEW system is integrated into COMAND and can be obtained via a separate option code which specifies a different 8-inch
display and wiring harness. An active matrix color screen allows for the display of two different images simultaneously. A filter masking the display
divides the image to make it a viewing angle specific. Therefore, only a single visual source can be seen on either side. As a result, the driver and
front passenger can view completely different content on the same screen at the same time.
When active, the driver has full access to the COMAND system while the front passenger uses the included remote control and wireless headphones
to enjoy their own entertainment choice.
Requirements:
^ Minimum DAS 11/09 with all of the patches installed
^ Vehicle must be equipped with option code 867
^ Head unit version coding must be set to activate SPLITVIEW. You must DEACTIVATE feature for states where prohibited
