A/T - Torque Converter Lock Up Concerns Mercedes Benz Truck GL 350 BLUETEC

If you are experiencing torque converter lock-up concerns with your Mercedes Benz Truck GL 350 BLUETEC, here are some steps you can take to diagnose and potentially fix the issue:

  1. Check the transmission fluid level and condition: Low or contaminated transmission fluid can cause torque converter lock-up issues. Make sure the fluid level is correct and the fluid is not burnt or contaminated.

  2. Check for codes: Use a scan tool to check for any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) related to the torque converter or transmission. Address any codes that are present.

  3. Check the torque converter clutch solenoid: The torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid is responsible for engaging and disengaging the torque converter. A faulty solenoid can cause torque converter lock-up issues. Check the solenoid for proper operation and replace if necessary.

  4. Inspect the torque converter: The torque converter itself can become damaged or worn over time, leading to lock-up concerns. Inspect the torque converter for any signs of damage or wear, and replace if necessary.

  5. Check the wiring and connectors: Wiring issues or loose or corroded connectors can cause problems with the TCC solenoid or other transmission components. Check all wiring and connectors for damage or corrosion and repair or replace as necessary.

  6. Check the transmission cooler: A clogged or restricted transmission cooler can cause the transmission fluid to overheat, leading to torque converter lock-up issues. Check the cooler for any signs of restriction and clean or replace if necessary.

If you are not able to diagnose or fix the issue on your own, it is recommended to take your vehicle to a certified mechanic or dealership for further diagnosis and repair. A professional may be able to perform a more thorough inspection of the transmission and identify any other issues that could be causing the problem.

A/T - Torque Converter Lock Up Concerns Mercedes Benz Truck GL 350 BLUETEC

2010 Mercedes Benz Truck GL 350 BLUETEC (164.825) V6-3.0L DSL Turbo (642.820)
Vehicle: All Technical Service Bulletins
A/T - Torque Converter Lock Up Concerns
Friction power of torque converter lockup clutch is too high (FC 2783) or actuation of torque converter lockup clutch not possible (FC 0741)
Topic number L127.20-P-055758
Version 1
Design group 27.20 Torque converter
Date 04-12-2013
Validity Vehicles with NAG2FE+ (7G-TRONIC PLUS) and
OM642LS or M278 in combination with EHS 212 270 00
06, 212 270 01 06, 231 270 05 60
Reason for change
Complaint:
FC 2783 (Friction power of torque converter lockup clutch is too high) or FC 0741 (Actuation of torque converter lockup clutch not possible) stored
in transmission control unit. One possible additional customer complaint could be "poor acceleration" e.g. due to torque reduction.
This can affect all NAG2FE+ (7G-TRONIC PLUS) vehicles with engines OM642LS and M278 in the production period from 04/2011 to 02/2012
and with more than 6,000 mi. The two fault codes can also occur in combination with rpm sensor faults. The rpm sensor fault is not connected with
this complaint.
Cause:
Increased wear of torque converter bearing bushing.
The cause of this may be an excessively rough microsurface of the input shaft journal.
Affected transmissions: NAT2 transmissions from ID 03.318.709 to ID 03.979.899 or NAT2 transmissions from ID 07.019.944 to ID 07.247.699
Remedy:
Disassemble the transmission and the torque converter and then polish the transmission input shaft with a 15 micro volt microfinishing film as
described in the attached instructions (use the finishing film/strip once only). The finishing film/polishing strip can be ordered from the GLC.
In addition the torque converter must be replaced.
After replacing the torque converter, the converter adaptation data must be reset as follows:
Access Xentry: VGS - Fully integrated transmission control (Y3/8n4) -> Teach-in processes -> Reset of adaptation values -> Torque converter ->
Confirm torque converter replacement with Yes -> Confirm reset of adaptation data with Yes
Access DAS: Electronic transmission control (722.9 7G-TRONIC) -> Transmission adaptation -> Reset of adaptation data (torque converter lockup
clutch) -> Confirm torque converter replacement with Yes -> Confirm reset of adaptation data with Yes
