Diagnostic Fault Information

Circuit/System Description

The pedestrian impact detection system senses and discriminates vehicle impacts and deploys the pedestrian hood hinge actuators in a timely

manner to protect vulnerable pedestrians. The safing sensor provides vehicle acceleration information to the pedestrian impact detection module.

The pedestrian impact detection module uses vehicle acceleration information from the safing sensor and force information from the discrimination

sensor to determine those events when the deployment of the hood hinge actuator is expected. The pedestrian impact detection module provides a

two wire current loop interface to the safing sensor. The pedestrian impact detection module also provides power and ground to the safing sensor

over the same two wire discrete interface. The pedestrian impact detection module monitors the safing sensor for any system malfunction and when

a malfunction is detected, a DTC will be stored in non volatile memory.

Conditions for Running the DTC

Ignition voltage is between 9-16 volts.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

B009D 01

The safing sensor voltage is greater than 3.2 V and the safing sensor voltage is not supplied by the pedestrian impact detection module.

B009D 02

The safing sensor voltage is less than 3.5 V and the safing sensor voltage is being supplied by the pedestrian impact detection module.

B009D 08

The safing sensor high and/or low circuit is open. An open circuit indicates no new data received.

B009D 39

The safing sensor sends an error message or invalid data to the pedestrian impact detection module.

B009D 3A

Invalid safing sensor ID data received by the pedestrian impact detection module

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

* The pedestrian impact detection module commands the DIC to display Service Pedestrian Protection System.

* The pedestrian impact detection module stores DTC in memory.
