Subject: Rear Brake Squeak/Squeal Noise on Brake Apply (Replace Rear Brake Pads and Caliper Brackets on Specified Vehicles)
Models:
2008-2010 Cadillac CTS, CTS Sport Wagon
with RPO J55 or JE5
Supercede:
This bulletin is being revised to provide updated VIN breakpoint and model year. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 08-05-23-009D
(Section 05 - Brakes).
Condition
Some customers may comment on a rear squeak/squeal noise when the brake pedal is applied. This noise is normally heard when the brake pedal is
lightly applied.
Cause
This condition may be caused by normal friction developed between the pads and the brake rotor, causing a vibration of the brake hardware.

Only replace the brake pads with the pad kit listed in this bulletin. DO NOT attempt to modify or apply any material to the pads. Do not
replace the rear brake rotors. When replacing the brake pads, also replace the caliper brackets AS DIRECTED BELOW. Be sure to select the
proper clips for this application from the two sets provided in the brake pad kit. Refer to the Old and New Clip Design below to determine which
clip to use.

Important
Be sure the mounting surface for the sticky adhesive backing of the brake pad is clean, dry and oil-free for the best results.
1. Inspect the rear brake system. Refer to Rear Disc Brake Mounting and Hardware Inspection in SI.
2. If the inspection does not identify the concern, replace the rear brake pads (GM P/N 20962994) and brackets (base brake system JE5 only,
GM P/N 20894773). Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement in SI, which includes pad replacement.
With RPO J55 ONLY - All 2008 Vehicles and 2009 Vehicles Built Prior to VIN Breakpoint 90151180
1. Inspect the rear brake system. Refer to Rear Disc Brake Mounting and Hardware Inspection in SI.
2. If the inspection does not identify the concern, replace the rear brake pads (GM P/N 20876917) and brackets (IF THEY WERE NOT
PREVIOUSLY REPLACED WITH THIS PART NUMBER/uplevel high performance brake system J55, GM P/N 25997463). Refer to Rear
Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement in SI, which includes pad replacement.
Old and New Clip Design
There are two brake clip designs that are provided in GM P/N 20962994. Be sure to select the proper clips for this application. The production (old
design) (1) clip is used on the older style brackets.The newly designed clip (2) is used when only for the new bracket, P/N 20894773, for the JE5
applications.
