This September marks the ten-year anniversary of the M-Class, the first SUV built by Mercedes-Benz in the U.S. In addition to its exclusive exterior and interior finish, the Edition 10 comes with an enhanced list of standard equipment. A rear-view camera, GPS navigation, power liftgate, rain-sensor wipers and heated front seats are all standard, along with a harman/kardon premium audio system with six-disc CD changer, rear audio controls, Sirius satellite radio and an integrated hands-free phone system. When the 1998 Mercedes-Benz M-Class first arrived, the new sport utility vehicle started a trend that inspired the entire auto industry to shift toward more luxurious car-like SUVs. Launched as the only sport utility in its class with four-wheel independent suspension, the original M-Class was one of the first to be designed from the ground up, rather than being based on an existing truck platform. The first-generation M-Class won many awards, including the prestigious North American Truck of the Year. During the eight-year life cycle of the first-generation vehicle, more than 570,000 M-Class SUVs were produced at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, with about half of them sold in the U.S. The second-generation M-Class reasserted its industry leadership in a highly competitive market that had grown dramatically since the launch of the original Mercedes-Benz SUV.

One or two gestures with your fingers - a quick swipe or splay - are all it needs to understand what you want. It can even decipher the letters and numbers traced on the touchpad. Incidentally, the touchpad in the new C-Class is the first ever to be able to control all the functions of an infotainment system based on gestures alone. The C220 is fitted with 2143 cc inline 4 cylinder common-rail direct injection system diesel engine which produce a maximum output of 125 KW and a peak torque of 400 Nm. 7-speed automatic transmission allow a wide ratio spread with low engine speed increments between the individual gears. The result: quick, smooth and fuel-saving gear changes every time. At a touch of the AGILITY SELECT feature, drivers can choose between comfortable, sporty, particularly sporty and efficient driving styles, or their own individually defined style. Parameters such as the engine, transmission and steering characteristics are adjusted according to the selected transmission mode. The Merc C220 is a good drive for the cities as well as the highways. The higher ground clearance with taller springs gives a better ride quality. The Mercedes C220 Style is priced at Rs. 32.90 lacs(ex-showroom Delhi ) while the Avantgarde is priced at Rs.42.90 lacs(ex-showroom Delhi ). Inspite of being so pricey, once you experience the luxury on offer, you will appreciate the price paid. The car is loaded to the gills with features and is comparable to the next higher trim available. And the drool worthy looks are the icing on the cake.

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class splits the brand鈥檚 compact sedan lineup in two. The A-Class offers the looks of a more traditional sedan, while the carryover CLA-Class has the swoopier lines of a coupe-like sedan. It is offered in just one trim level called A220, though high-performance A35 and A45 models are in the works. The A-Class does a good job of fixing the ills of its CLA-Class predecessor. It rides well, has more interior space, and introduces a state-of-the-art infotainment system. We rate it a 6.4 overall, though that could change once it's crash tested. The 2019 A-Class is offered as just one model, the A220, in front- or all-wheel-drive configurations. Its lone engine is a 2.0-liter turbo-4 rated at 188 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. Power flows to the front or all four wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The EPA hasn鈥檛 yet rated the 2019 A-Class, but Mercedes says the slippery shape should help fuel efficiency. The A-Class has a 0.22 coefficient of drag, according to the automaker, among the lowest for a production car.

The new A-Class rides an updated version of the architecture that underpins the CLA. Versus the outgoing version of the platform, the new version is lighter, stiffer, and more flexible for future drivetrains. The suspension features MacPherson struts up front with a four-link independent rear axle. Adaptive dampers are optional. The A-Class takes a significant step forward from the CLA in interior technology. With the new Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) interface, buyers get two screens, one for the instrument cluster and the other for infotainment. They are offered in 7.0- and 10.3-inch sizes. The system recognizes natural speed commands, and the infotainment screen offers touch control, which is a first in a Mercedes. A touchpad is also provided. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility are standard. Other standard interior goodies include a panoramic sunroof and dual-zone automatic climate control. The options list includes navigation, ambient lighting, multi-countour and heated/cooled front seats, a heated steering wheel, a wireless smartphone charger, a head-up display, and a Burmester sound system. Mercedes says the A-Class has more head room than its competitors, which is a sore spot in the CLA-Class. Safety technology from higher-end Mercedes-Benz cars filters down to the entry-level A-Class. Unfortunately, most of that tech is optional. Among the slew of features are adaptive cruise control, active lane control, forward-collision warnings with automatic emergency braking, forward cross-traffic detection, blind-spot monitors, an automatic lane change function, evasive steering assist, a surround-view camera system, and automatic parking.
