Hybrid Systems - Coolant Leaks

ALTIMA HYBRID; COOLANT LEAK



APPLIED VEHICLE: 2007 - 2010 Altima Hybrid (L32HV)



IF YOU CONFIRM:



Coolant is leaking from the eCVT Sump Pump Plate area.



^ DTC P0A93-346 (Inverter Cooling System Performance) and / or P3216-181 (Reactor Temperature Sensor Circuit Low) may be found stored in



CONSULT III / HYBRID SYSTEM.



ACTION:



Re-seal the eCVT sump pump plate.

For repair procedure, refer to SERVICE PROCEDURE shown below.



Do NOT replace the eCVT assembly for this incident, if it should occur.



WARNING:



This vehicle has a High Voltage system. Review "Precautions For High-Voltage System" in the GI section of the appropriate Electronic Service



Manual (ESM).



IMPORTANT:



Follow all cautions, warnings, and notes in the ESM when working on an Altima Hybrid vehicle. You MUST have completed "Altima Hybrid New



Technology Introduction" Service Training before working on this vehicle.

PROCEDURE as it contains information that is essential to successfully completing this repair.

CLAIMS INFORMATION



SERVICE PROCEDURE



1) Raise the vehicle on a lift.



^ Make sure the ignition is off before raising the vehicle.

2) Inspect for signs of coolant leaking at the sump pump plate (plate). See picture above.



^ If leakage is detected at the plate, go to Step 2a below.



^ If no coolant found at the plate, this bulletin does not apply. Go to ASIST and the ESM for further assistance.



a. Drain the MG/Inverter cooling system by removing the drain plug. See picture.



NOTE:



The MG/Inverter cooling system is separate from the engine's cooling system.



b. Remove the bolts securing the plate, and then remove the plate. (see Figure 1).



c. Clean off all sealant from the plate and its mating surface on the eCVT.



d. Apply ThreeBond(R) RTV Sealant (see PARTS INFORMATION) to the plate.



e. Install the plate to the eCVT case with its bolts, and then torque the bolts (see Figure 1).

^ Bolts torque sequence: 1-2-3-4-5



^ Bolts torque: 24.3 Nm (2.5 kg-m, 18 ft lb)



f. Install the drain plug with a new washer (see PARTS INFORMATION).



^ Drain plug torque: 39.3 Nm (4.0 kg-m, 29 ft lb)



g. Fill the MG/Inverter cooling system (see PARTS INFORMATION).



^ Refer to the appropriate section of the ESM, if needed.



h. Check for leaks.



i. If DTC P0A93-346 and / or P3216-181 is found stored, perform diagnosis as found in the ESM.



^ If diagnosis results are ok, clear the code(s).
