SUBJECT
Washer Fluid Leaks from Washer Jets
MODEL
R50 (Cooper) produced from 11/2003
R53 (Cooper S) produced from 11/2003
R56 (Cooper and Cooper S)
SITUATION
[NEW] The customer may complain that washer fluid is leaking from the rear window washer jet and/or the front washer jets.
CAUSE
^ A vacuum created while the vehicle is in motion can cause washer fluid to leak from the rear washer jet.
^ [NEW] Slight residual positive pressure in the front washer hoses after operation can cause a small amount of fluid to leak from the front washer
jets.
CORRECTION
[NEW] In the case of a customer complaint, install a non-return valve to the rear wiper motor or two nonreturn valves to the windshield washer
system.
PROCEDURE
Rear washer fluid leak
1. Cut the washer fluid supply hose (1) approximately 20mm from the end (Dimension A).
2. Install the non-return valve (2) with the arrow (3) pointing toward the rear hatch wiper motor.
[NEW] Front washer fluid leak:
1. Cut the washer fluid supply hoses (1) approximately 20mm from one of the front washer jets (Dimension A).
2. Install a non-return valve (2) behind the washer jet (3), with the arrow pointing toward the washer jet.

3. Repeat this procedure for the opposite front washer jet.
