It's getting harder and harder to hate SUVs these days. As
manufacturers continue to walk down their own personal Green Mile
toward stiffer CAFE standards, engineers have been working double-time
to come up with creative ways to increase fuel economy without putting
drivability or power on the sacrificial altar. As a result, the
once-lumbering sport utilities of old have matured into smooth-riding,
even-keeled unibody machines with the manners of significantly smaller
models. Few vehicles embody that change quite as poignantly as the 2012
Mercedes-Benz ML350 BlueTec. The M-Class has entered into its third
generation of production, and the new model now comes equipped with
more power and efficiency while maintaining last year's MSRP. Designers
have also taken the time to iron some of the awkward out of the SUV's
design with an improved front fascia and other tweaks, and there's more
standard technology onboard than ever before. Continue reading to find
out why the 2012 ML350 BlueTec 4Matic is the best reason we've seen yet
to quit worrying and love the SUV. The 2012 model has come a long way
from the rolling-ski-boot aesthetics of its forebearers thanks in part
to a few massaged exterior dimensions.

I鈥檝e been trying to get a Mercedes-Benz into my family鈥檚 fleet for
some time, but the luxury brand鈥檚 offerings usually come in a little
higher than our car-shopping budget allows. 30,000 sedan could work for
my family of three, but quickly determined the four-door 鈥渃oupe鈥?was
not intended for families, even small ones. My scheming started again
with the 2015 GLA-Class. 32,225 including a destination charge, than in
the Mercedes-Benz C-Class car. On paper, the Mercedes GLA250 offers
more passenger room and cargo space than the CLA250 thanks to its SUV
crossover body style. It鈥檚 no surprise that the GLA250鈥檚 cargo area
is larger at 17.2 cubic feet behind the backseat compared to the
CLA250鈥檚 13.1 cubic feet. My child鈥檚 stroller fit in the GLA250鈥檚
cargo area easily, but in the Mercedes-Benz CLA250 I had to remove one
of the stroller鈥檚 wheels to fit it. When the GLA250鈥檚 60/40-split
rear seats are folded, there鈥檚 43.6 cubic feet of vehicle cargo space.

Now, you鈥檙e probably familiar with Traxxas鈥?RC vehicle lineup. We
mean, we鈥檝e only recently shown you what the RC Chevrolet Blazer can
do on rough terrain. Today鈥檚 video keeps the off-road theme alive but
adds a more extreme dimension. Well, if we didn鈥檛 know better, we鈥檇
say that the one controlling the Traxxas TRX-4 Mercedes-Benz G500 in
the video you鈥檙e about to watch is Ken Block himself, during one of
his Gymkhana sprees. But that鈥檚 not the case here. In fact, a lot of
the car鈥檚 verve nicely caught on camera is due to its underpinnings.
We鈥檙e not done yet. Serving its off-road appetite and claims alike is
a set of 2.6-inch five-spoke wheels wrapped in Canyon Trail tires with
foam inserts mean to dig deep into dirt for every drop of traction.
They also come in handy when they鈥檙e needed to cushion a massive jump
or simply go down some stairs.

If you've been paying attention to the full-size van market, you know a
battle is brewing. Ram's ProMaster is coming soon, as is the Ford
Transit. Yet the Sprinter, the van that made the look and attitude of
the segment more Eurocentric when it first went on sale, seemed to plug
along for the last few years without many changes. The most notable
change for the new van is the addition of a second engine. This is the
first time the Sprinter will be available with a choice of
turbodiesels. In the small sport/utility, the engine output is 200 hp
and 369 lb-ft of torque; in the van, the engine has been tuned to put
out 161 hp and 265 lb-ft at 1400 rpm. The little vehicle gets the more
powerful version of the engine? While it does seem odd that the four
has been detuned that much, Mercedes did it for a couple of reasons.
