SHUDDER/VIBRATION ON MODERATE TO HARD ACCELERATION
FORD: 2009-2010 F-150
ISSUE Some 2009-2010 F-150 vehicles may exhibit shudder/vibration on moderate to hard acceleration.
ACTION Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Adjust the rear axle pinion angle using the appropriate axle shim kit. Refer to the Instruction Sheet provided in the kit which provides installation procedures and Driveline Angle Corrections Chart.
The concerns described in this article mainly occur only when the vehicle is loaded with cargo or towing a trailer. The following are key points when resolving the concern.
^ The vehicle must be evaluated in the state when the complaint occurs in order to verify the concern and validate a successful repair.
^ If pinion angle is being adjusted to compensate for a loaded or trailer tow condition, there is risk that a vibration may occur with the vehicle unloaded.
^ Verify suspension is not modified from the original configuration. Aftermarket leveling kits and rear leaf spring shackle kits change ride height which affects pinion angle and other critical driveline related operating angles. Vehicle must be at original specifications before accurate evaluation and diagnosis can be performed.
NOTE FOR 2 PIECE DRIVESHAFT EQUIPPED VEHICLES IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO ORDER THE CENTER BEARING SHIM(S) (3 MAXIMUM) AND BOLTS.
NOTE HEAVY DUTY REAR AXLES HAVE 7 LUG NUTS.
