Tesla On‑board Computer / Camera Faults Recalls for rearview camera and computer hardware failures.

Here is the list of labels with the causes and solutions for current (2025–2026) computer and camera recall issues:

Rearview Camera Recalls,

  • Cause: Software bugs in the 14-inch center display or parking assist ECU cause the screen to go green, black, or freeze.

  • Solution: Dealers provide a free software update to the parking assist ECU or display module to restore the image.

Infotainment System Glitches,

  • Cause: Integration failures between the vehicle's native software and smartphone projection (like Apple CarPlay) causing system lag or crashes.

  • Solution: Manufacturers release Over-the-Air (OTA) firmware updates to improve system stability and boot-up speeds.

NHTSA Hardware Alerts,

  • Cause: Physical defects such as short-circuiting computer circuit boards or rearview cameras that were improperly installed at the factory.

  • Solution: Full hardware replacement of the affected circuit boards or camera modules at an authorized service center.

Backup Camera Failures,

  • Cause: Water intrusion into the camera housing or frayed wiring harnesses located in moving parts like the trunk or tailgate hinge.

  • Solution: Installation of improved weather-sealed camera units and repositioning or replacing the wiring harness to prevent future damage.

On-board Computer Faults,

  • Cause: Power-up sequence errors that lead to "blackout" conditions for critical driver info, including speedometers and warning lights.

  • Solution: Wireless OTA software patches that reconfigure the vehicle's startup logic to prevent component shorting.
