Today, a used Lamborghini price is unanimously recognized alongside top-tier supercars. They are top tier, top of the line performance vehicles with cutting-edge designs that blow most other marques out of the water. Though a Lamborghini for sale may seem expensive, the precision of engineering and advanced design allows for them. And that is exactly what Ferruccio wanted to happen. Born in 1916, Ferruccio was an entrepreneur with an eye for opportunity. After World War 2, he began his first business by reconfiguring surplus vehicles from the military, turning them into much-needed tractors at a factory outside of Bologna, Italy. From there he built his fortune, becoming an incredibly wealthy man by the time he was in his fifties. It was at that point that he saw the sports cars for sale in existence, and decided that he could do it better. In 1963, he stole away some of the competition's top players and officially opened the doors of Automobili Ferruccio for business. The 350 GTV was introduced that November at the Turin Auto Show and a new manufacturer was officially born. The 1964 350 GT was the first available car, with 120 examples created.
Production increased to 273 for the 400 GT, also introduced in 1964, and the next year saw even more groundbreaking vehicles entering the world. By 1966, Ferruccio鈥檚 company had officially changed the automotive world. The most iconic model ever created, the Miura, was introduced that year, and it redefined the way high-performance used cars were built. With a 3.9 liter V12 engine mounted transversely behind the cockpit, it offered near perfect weight distribution and a five-speed manual transmission. Ferruccio remained the company鈥檚 owner until he retired in 1974, selling the company to two investors. That year also saw the introduction of the Countach. The name is an expression of astonishment in Italian, and the design was so revolutionary it remained in production until 1990. Powered by a revised V12, the mid-engine design returned to a longitudinal layout. The first model to feature scissor doors, they have been a hallmark of the brand ever since.
Engine sized evolved from 4 liters to 4.7 liters and eventually to 5.1 liters in the Quattrovalvole (four valve) model. Ownership of the company changed hands several times between 1974 and 1998, at which point it was purchased by the Volkswagen Group and placed under the control of their Audi division. The first car overseen by the new owners was the Murcielago. It reigned supreme for a decade, with 4,099 cars built between 2001 and 2011. It would be the last time a manual transmission would be offered on the flagship, as all good things must come to an end. It was succeeded by the Aventador which has spawned several concepts along with a Super Veloce model. Sending 740 horsepower to all wheels is not an easy task, which is why is feared and praised by the motoring world. In addition to the twelve-cylinder cars, a new smaller car named Gallardo was introduced in 2003. Powered by a 5.0 and then a 5.2 liter V10, they were available in all wheel drive and rear wheel configurations. Production lasted until 2013 when it was replaced by the Huracan. As the Spanish translation of Hurricane, this powerful storm is the state of the art. Though the history is a tad shorter than most other luxury manufacturers鈥? Lamborghini types have rocketed to the front of the pack. The engine's midship placement enhances the R8's responsiveness and visceral nature, and the steering, which is still hydraulic-assisted, provides great feel and responsiveness. Mostly, though, the R8 distinguishes itself from past and present supercars by providing all of this excellent performance without the sacrifices that other ultrahigh-performance cars require. Specifically, the R8 offers decent ride comfort, good outward visibility and comfortable seats. It's a supercar you can drive every day if you so desire. Of course, there are some drawbacks, and they apply to the entire 2014 R8 lineup. Cargo space is limited, making the R8 a poor choice for a long road trip. And although Audi made a variety of changes this year, upgrading the car's electronics interface was unfortunately not one of them. As such, the outdated navigation system interface will have you pining for Audi's newer electronics suite. Even with these drawbacks, the 2014 Audi R8 still shines brightly among exotic cars, including the ones that cost tens of thousands more. And keep in mind, there isn't a loser in this rarefied class.
