The German manufacturer鈥檚 sales were dropping because the model wasn鈥檛 available for purchase. Considering that Macan is Porsche鈥檚 best-selling vehicle these lack of available crossovers impacted their earnings in the last few months. The reason for the delay was lack of certificate for Porsche which would allow them to begin sales. They had to pass through the same process in 2017. The US now has strict regulations for imported vehicles due to Volkswagen diesel scandal. The two certificates needed to be those from EPA and California Air Resources Board. The expected delay was from four to twelve weeks. For lasting of the certification process, Macan crossovers were waiting across the US in various ports. The first sign of a future problem was seen in July. At that time sales of Porsche鈥檚 other models started to decline. 911 fell by 27 percent, Cayman by 58 percent, and Boxster by 51 percent.
After the certification was cleared up, all three cars rose in sales. In August 911 sales rose up by 36 percent, Cayman by 54 percent, and Boxster by 12 percent. Now the delay with Macan is finally over. The first models hit dealerships on August 30, but first sales happened in September. But, unfortunately, not all dealerships will be immediately stocked with 2018 Porsche Macan. Depending on the location, deliveries will last through September until mid-October. The car鈥檚 platform is not going to change which is contrary to what most people thought. In fact, the new model will still be based on the older MLB architecture. While it may seem like a step back, it really isn鈥檛 as the MLB is more than just capable enough. The only real drawback is the fact the Macan will be lacking some of the newer features. One of the car鈥檚 main selling points is the way it drives. In order to become even better than before, it looks like the 2018 Porsche Macan will receive quite a bit of attention. These should improve the ride while also maintaining the great driving characteristics.
The optional air-suspension will be retained for the higher end models. In order to improve these, it seems Porsche may end up installing a new management unit in order to make the suspension faster to react to the changing driving conditions. Let鈥檚 start with the interior of the 2018 Porsche Macan which may be a disappointment for many. Even though Porsche didn鈥檛 release the official specs, the prototype for the car was already spied and the news isn鈥檛 great. The prototype had exactly the same dashboard, instrument cluster and overall layout as the ongoing model. This is not ideal, especially since Porsche released a brand new infotainment system with the Panamera. The car鈥檚 exterior, on the other hand, will change slightly. In the front, the headlights will feature either Xenon or LED clusters. On top of that, the bumper is expected to change in order to look a bit closer to the upcoming Cayenne.
The biggest change will come to the rear of the car. Here, the new Macan will feature full-width tail lights, similar to Porsche鈥檚 newer models. These should really elevate the way it looks while also giving the car a far more aggressive character than before. The base version of the 2018 Porsche Macan will likely retain the 2.0-liter turbo-four of its predecessor. With 249 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque, this is not really the most impressive engine out there. Even so, it is known to be reliable and one of the more capable inline-four gasoline engines on the market. The 3.0-liter V6 turbocharged diesel is not going to change much either. This will continue to offer 208 to 254 horsepower and up to 428 lb-ft of torque. Both of these will be available with all-wheel drive and Porsche鈥檚 well-known 7-speed PDK gearbox. The S and GTS will receive Porsche鈥檚 3.0 liter turbocharged V6 which is known to make up to around 350 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque.
The Turbo, on the other hand, will receive a smaller 2.9-liter V6 sporting twin-turbochargers. This engine has been confirmed to make up to 444 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque, a sizable improvement over the older 3.6-liter unit. The price has yet to be announced but it looks like not much will change. 70,000 without any optional extras. My name is Sinisa Vujinovic and I have been a car enthusiast since I can remember.
