Toyota Becomes Latest Car Maker To Offer Scrappage Scheme

Toyota is the latest car maker to launch a scrappage scheme in the UK, following in the footsteps of manufacturers such as Ford and Hyundai. The initiative offers savings of up to 拢4000 when trading in any Toyota model more than seven years鈥?old and owned by a customer for at least six months. The biggest saving of 拢4000 can be achieved on a Land Cruiser, while the lowest saving of 拢1000 is for the C-HR and C-HR hybrid. Toyota鈥檚 well-known Prius Hybrid has a saving of 拢2000. The full list of savings on individual models is below. The scheme starts tomorrow and continues until the end of the year. Toyota said the discounts allow people 鈥渢o change their older, higher-emissions vehicles for a brand new Toyota, including the widest range of petrol-electric hybrids on the market鈥? Paul Van der Burgh, Toyota's UK boss, added: 鈥淥ur scrappage scheme is a win-win solution. Motorists can dispose of their older vehicles and have access to our cleaner, more efficient model range. 鈥淥ur world-leading petrol-electric hybrids will be an ideal choice, helping make a genuine contribution to protecting air quality - a crucial concern for today鈥檚 customers. Earlier this month, Ford announced its own scrappage scheme, which offers a discount of 拢2000 across the board for new models when replacing cars and vans sold up to 2010. In that initiative, the saving sits alongside existing deals. For example, Ford is already offering 拢2000 off a Kuga, so buyers would get a total saving of 拢4000 when buying that model. Other car makers offering similar schemes in the UK include Hyundai, BMW and Mercedes-Benz. The introduction of manufacturer scrappage schemes has snowballed as negativity surrounding older diesel vehicles continues. The initiatives encourage owners to get rid of older, more polluting vehicles to move into newer, cleaner models. All of the schemes announced so far include both petrol and diesel models.
