The 2021 Jeep Compass was showing its age as it was barely updated since the second generation came out in 2017. So, Jeep decided to give it a serious update for 2022 to help it return to its lost glory. The competition is pretty tight in the compact SUV segment with the best-selling likes of Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV-4 giving it a tough fight.
People just love cheap crossovers, and more so, crossovers that can off-road! For 2022, Jeep satisfies both these wishes and much more with the heavily updated Compass. It gets an all-new interior with the latest in technology, a sharper-looking exterior with cooler 19-inch shoes, and the best safety suite ever in this compact Jeep.
And there are high chances of Jeep bringing in a plug-in hybrid model that will bump up this Jeep's performance and efficiency appeal. Assist features also get the spotlight here with semi-autonomous tech making its way soon as well. In short, the Compass is in its best form yet.
2022 Jeep Compass plays the 'more for less' mantra really well with sharp looks and the most impressive interior makeover for just $24,995.
The 2022 Jeep Compass has narrowed down in terms of trim levels. But, on the flip side, this has allowed Jeep to lavishly pack every trim with a bucketful of features. The 2022 Compass' MSRP ranges from an impressively low $24,995 for the base Sport and tops out at $33,990 for High Altitude. The fact that Jeep has managed to pack an impressive list of new upgrades, and still pull-off with a marginal bump in pricing is GOLD.
More for less is the trend here and the 2022 Compass has impressed us with the dedicated amount of upgrades it gets. On the exterior things are mellower with tweaked front and rear fascia. The 2022MY gets sharper-looking LED headlamps and new color schemes to freshen things up. But it is on the inside that the better bits lie.
Jeep has gone for an intensive transformation with a redesigned dashboard, an all-new infotainment screen running faster and smoother Uconnect 5 software, and stacked with technology. A new Latitude LUX trim packs AWD fun and lux-appeal for under $30,000. Oh! The best part is what Jeep has to offer with the Trailhawk that is very serious about offroading.
The 2022 Jeep Compass comes packed with a standard 2.4-liter inline-4 motor that churns out a humble 177 HP and 172 lb-ft of torque. These are not highlighting numbers for an SUV that is keen on going off the roads, but it holds on...barely. A 6-Speed Automatic comes coupled to FWD trims and a 9-Speed for AWD ones. The FWD variants return 31 MPG on the highway and AWD variants are rated to tow up to 2,000 pounds.
But what intrigues us is the possibility of a plug-in hybrid powertrain joining the list. It packs a smart layout of a 1.3-liter gasoline engine powering the front wheels and an electric more for the rear. Power ranges from 190 HP to 240 HP and is even capable of all-electric runs. Both performance and efficiency get a boost here and are sold outside the US as the 4xe trim. If this comes over, then things won't be so boring anymore.

Jeep's legendary off-roading capability is retained in the 2022 Compass line-up with two 4X4 systems and a Selec-Terrain traction management system. It also packs new suspension tweaks for a smoother driving experience on and off the roads. But it is with the off-road centric Trailhawk, that its hunger for the off-roading is fulfilled. The powertrain layout is the same and comes with AWD and the 9-Speed Auto combination.
But it features a 20:1 crawl ratio, courtesy of a 4.71:1 first gear ratio paired with a 4.334:1 final drive ratio. There is no transfer case here but 4 distinctive drive modes - Auto, Snow, Sand/ Mud, and Rock fills in the void, along with hill-descent control. Jeep has also given the Trailhawk a 1-inch lift from the factory, increasing the ground clearance to 8.6 inches. All of this for the love of off-roading. No wonder, Jeep is the most patriotic brand out there!

This year Jeep finally decided to let go of the boring interior and spice things up, and they did it well! The dashboard has a redesigned layout and is stacked with a floating infotainment screen. The interior flaunts a dual-tone layout that adds color and gives it an airy appeal. The steering wheel is new and is inspired by the ones in the upcoming Jeep Wagoneer. The Compass gets an available 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster as well.
The infotainment screen is 8.4-inches as standard and can be dialed up to a 10.1-inch unit. It runs a newer improved Uconnect 5 interface (away from all those niggles it had in the past) and comes with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Available features just go on with a wireless charging pad, heated front seats, hands-free, and a foot-activated power liftgate.
Jeep has dialed up on the safety front as well with more standard features across the trim-table that includes Full-speed Collision Warning with active brake and pedestrian/cyclist detection, Blind-spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Path detection being some from the impressive suite. It also comes with available Highway Assis semi-autonomous driving tech, 360-degree camera, among many more.
Jeep is very serious about gaining back lost ground and the 2022 Compass looks like the perfect comeback.
