A/C - Clicking Sound from HVAC System

TECHNICAL

Bulletin No.: 11-01-39-001

Date: April 26, 2011

Subject: Clicking Sound from HVAC System (Reprogram HVAC Control Module)

Models:

2010-2011 Cadillac SRX

Condition

Some customers may comment on a clicking sound from the HVAC system. This noise may be heard when the climate control is in the AUTO

mode.

Note

The sound may appear to be located in the general IP area, and be intermittent in nature.

Cause

This condition may be caused by a software anomaly within the electronic climate control module (ECC), which may create excessive noise from

the HVAC actuators.

Correction

Reprogram the HVAC control module with the latest software calibration.

Important

Select the correct calibration files for the appropriate vehicle configuration (body style) and RPO codes.

Note

This software update will not change an unexpected and normal condition which results in three tick sounds that occur when an actuator reaches the

end of its travel. The update corrects a more continuous noise.

A revised calibration has been developed to address this condition. Technicians are to reprogram the HVAC control module using the service

programming system (SPS) with the latest software available on TIS2WEB. Refer to HVAC System Control Module Programming and Setup in SI.

When using a Tech 2(R) or a Multiple Diagnostic Interface (MDI) for reprogramming, ensure that it is updated with the latest software version.

During programming, the battery voltage must be maintained within the proper range of 12-15 Volts. Only use the approved Midtronics(R) PSC

550 Battery Maintainer (SPS Programming Support Tool EL-49642) or equivalent during programming.
