2010 Cadillac Truck SRX AWD V6-3.0L Technical Service Bulletin # 10309A Date: 101117

Campaign - Power Steering Fluid Leak

CUSTOMER SATISFACTION

Bulletin No.: 10309A

Date: November 17, 2010

Subject: 10309A - Power Steering Fluid Leak

Models:

2010-2011 Cadillac SRX

Supercede:

Step 3 of the Service Procedure has been revised. Dealers are to remove the right (passenger) side power steering nut. Please discard all copies of

bulletin 10309, issued November 2010.

Due to part availability, customers involved in this program will be notified in phases.

Condition

Certain 2010 and 2011 model year Cadillac SRX vehicles may have a condition in which, over time, the power steering gear return line may wear

due to movement of the line. If this occurs, a power steering fluid leak may develop. If there is a sufficient amount of fluid loss, the driver will hear

noise from the power steering pump and increased effort may be required for steering.

Correction

Dealers are to install a protective sleeve over the power steering gear return line and secure the line with a bracket.

Vehicles Involved

Involved are certain 2010-2011 Cadillac SRX vehicles built within these VIN breakpoints:

Important

Dealers are to confirm vehicle eligibility prior to beginning repairs by using the Required Field Actions section in the Global Warranty

system. Not all vehicles within the above breakpoints may be involved.

For dealers with involved vehicles, a listing with involved vehicles containing the complete vehicle identification number, customer name, and

address information has been prepared and will be provided to US and Canadian dealers through the GM GlobalConnect Recall Reports, or sent

directly to export dealers. Dealers will not have a report available if they have no involved vehicles currently assigned.

The listing may contain customer names and addresses obtained from Motor Vehicle Registration Records. The use of such motor vehicle

registration data for any purpose other than follow-up necessary to complete this program is a violation of law in several states/provinces/countries.

Accordingly, you are urged to limit the use of this report to the follow-up necessary to complete this program.

Parts Information

Parts required to complete this program are to be obtained from General Motors Customer Care and Aftersales (GMCC&A). Please refer to your

"involved vehicles listing" before ordering parts. Normal orders should be placed on a DRO = Daily Replenishment Order. In an emergency

situation, parts should be ordered on a CSO = Customer Special Order.

Service Procedure

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in SI.

2. Remove the steering gear heat shield (1) from the vehicle.

3. Remove the right (passenger side) power steering gear nut (6).

4. Clean the power steering gear outlet pipe (7) with a shop towel.

5. Install the grommet (1) on the power steering gear outlet pipe (7) and rotate the grommet so that the split is facing rearward.

Loose assemble in this position

Rotate into final position as loose assembly

6. Open the p-clip bracket (2) and wrap it around the grommet (1) carefully. Ensure that the p-clip bracket is within the grommet flanges.

Ensure that the grommet remains fully wrapped around the power steering gear outlet pipe. The slit of the grommet must face rearward.

Note

Loose assembly of the p-clip and thick bracket is required.

7. Rotate the p-clip legs (2) upward as shown in the illustration.

8. Attach the thick bracket to the p-clip legs (2) by locating the M6 screw hole of the P-clip legs to the thick bracket weld nut (3).

9. Apply Loctite 272 to the threads of the M6 screw (5).

10. Install M6 screw (5) finger tight. Do NOT tighten the M6 screw with a tool.

11. Rotate the loose assembly down and place the thick bracket (3) over the power steering gear bolt.

12. Place the hardened washer (4) over bracket on the power steering gear bolt.

13. Finger-tighten the power steering gear bolt and nut (6).

14. With the power steering gear nut and M6 screw finger tight, confirm the position of the grommet on the power steering gear outlet pipe.

Ensure that the grommet slit orientation is rearward as shown in the illustration.

15. Tighten the power steering gear bolt to 115 Nm(90 lb ft) + 90 degrees. Hold the power steering gear nut and thick bracket with the weld nut

stationary while tightening the power steering gear bolt.

16. Tighten the M6 screw to 8 Nm(71 lb in).

17. Ensure that the new power steering gear outlet pipe bracket assembly is installed correctly and properly supports the power steering gear

outlet pipe.

18. Install the conduit sleeve onto the power steering gear outlet pipe.

1. Push the conduit sleeve (open split on conduit) onto the power steering gear outlet pipe.

2. Orient the conduit split outboard (same side of vehicle as the tie rod).

3. Position the conduit sleeve so that the inboard end is tight up against the grommet (installed in Step 5).

4. Secure a tie strap to the midpoint of the conduit right at the center bend of the power steering gear outlet pipe (section B).

5. Secure a tie strap near both ends of the conduit (sections A and C).

6. Cut the excess tie strap.

19. Install the steering gear heat shield (1).

Courtesy Transportation - For US and Canada

The General Motors Courtesy Transportation program is intended to minimize customer inconvenience when a vehicle requires a repair that is

covered by the New Vehicle Limited Warranties. The availability of courtesy transportation to customers whose vehicles are within the warranty

coverage period and involved in a product program is very important in maintaining customer satisfaction. Dealers are to ensure that these

customers understand that shuttle service or some other form of courtesy transportation is available and will be provided at no charge. Dealers

should refer to the General Motors Service Policies and Procedures Manual for Courtesy Transportation guidelines.

Warranty Transaction Information

Submit a transaction using the table below.

Customer Notification - For US and Canada

General Motors will notify customers of this program on their vehicle (see copy of customer letter included with this bulletin).

Customer Notification - For Export

Letters will be sent to known owners of record located within areas covered by the US National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. For owners

outside these areas, dealers should notify customers using the attached sample letter.

Dealer Program Responsibility

All unsold new vehicles in dealers' possession and subject to this program must be held and inspected/repaired per the service procedure of this

program bulletin before customers take possession of these vehicles.

Dealers are to service all vehicles subject to this program at no charge to customers, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership, from this

time forward.

Customers who have recently purchased vehicles sold from your vehicle inventory, and for which there is no customer information indicated on the

involved vehicle listing, are to be contacted by the dealer. Arrangements are to be made to make the required correction according to the

instructions contained in this bulletin. A copy of the customer letter is provided in this bulletin for your use in contacting customers. Program

follow-up cards should not be used for this purpose, since the customer may not as yet have received the notification letter.

In summary, whenever a vehicle subject to this program enters your vehicle inventory, or is in your facility for service in the future, you must take

the steps necessary to be sure the program correction has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle.
