The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited pickup will enter production in late September, GM Authority can confirm.
The continuation GMC Sierra 1500 Limited in both the Regular Cab and Crew Cab body configuration will enter production at the GM Silao Plant in Mexico on September 20th, 2021. Production of the Regular Cab model at the GM Fort Wayne Assembly plant in Indiana will begin just one week later on September 27th, 2021.
As we reported previously, the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Limited will also enter production in late September. Like its GMC stablemate, production of the Silverado 1500 Limited will start first at the GM Silao plant in Mexico on September 20th and at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana one week later on September 27th.
The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited is a continuation of the 2021MY GMC Sierra. GM is currently in the midst of developing a mid-cycle update (MCE) version of the T1 platform GMC Sierra 1500, which will receive revised exterior styling, an overhauled interior, GM’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assist system and other changes and updates. This updated GMC Sierra 1500 would not have been ready for the beginning of the 2022 model year, so a Sierra 1500 Limited model based on the pre-update 2021MY Sierra was introduced in its place. The Sierra 1500 Limited will run for a shortened model year and will carry over every aspect of the 2021 Sierra 1500, including models, trims and available options and features.
With the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited set to serve as a bridge to the updated model, the refreshed GMC Sierra 1500 could end up being a 2022.5 or 2023 model-year product. More information on the MCE GMC Sierra 1500 and its official arrival should come to light in the coming months as its debut approaches.
