2022 NISSAN FRONTIER: REDESIGN INFO, PRICING, PHOTOS, RELEASE DATE

Text
To say the Nissan Frontier is a rolling fossil may be a little too generous. The last time it went through a full redesign was 2005 – yes, 16 model years ago – but it has seen a few visual, powertrain, and technology tweaks since. Finally, after what seems like a lifetime, the 2022 Nissan Frontier will arrive with a dramatic redesign.
The 2022 Nissan Frontier will roll in with an all-new look that’s sure to appeal to truck buyers everywhere. It’ll boast a blocky body with an upright grille, sharp hood, squared cab, and plenty of sharp body lines. The PRO-4X and PRO-X models will take the design a step further, with LED headlights with feature horizontal accents above and below, LED fog lights, and Lava Red grille accents.
Inside, the 2022 Nissan Frontier will feature a combination of utility and tech with its upright dash and traditional squared HVAC vents. However, the center will feature a standard 8-inch touchscreen or an available 9-inch infotainment system and standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Further enhancing its techy side will be a standard 7-inch driver-assist display. Rounding out the cabin will be standard Zero Gravity seats, additional sound-deadening materials, and loads of storage cubbies that can hold up to 16.2 liters (0.57 cubic feet) of pocket-dwelling items.
Under the 2022 Frontier’s hood will rest a 3.8-liter V6 with 310 horsepower and 281 pound-feet of torque. This engine may have the same hp, torque, and displacement as the current Frontier, but it features 93% new or redesigned components and will pair with a new nine-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive will be standard, but a shift-on-the-fly four-wheel-drive system will be available. The Pro-4X model will enhance its off-road abilities with an electronic-locking differential and Billstein shocks. The Frontier’s towing capacity will remain unchanged at 6,720 pounds.
There have been reports of a diesel option for the new-generation Frontier, but Nissan hasn’t confirmed this yet. Nissan even released a Frontier Diesel Runner concept based on the last-gen model. This rig boasted a 2.8-liter Cummins four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine with 200 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque.
Safety gear is usually a sore spot for pickups, but the 2022 Frontier will buck that trend with available Nissan Safety Shield 360, which will include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot warnings, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, high-beam assist, and rear automatic braking. Other available safety options will include Intelligent Forward Collision Warning and Tire Pressure Monitoring System with Easy Fill Tire Alert are standard. Additional available features will include adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, and a driver alertness monitor.
