HOCR 2019!

HOCR season is always exciting if you row on the Charles River. This year my team raced three boats, two eights, and a coxed quad. I did not get the opportunity to race this year but you can always learn so much from the sidelines and from watching them train.

PRE RACE TRAINING:

The three boats that my club sent have the most dedicated and outstanding girls in them. Most of them it is their last year rowing with us. Regardless, these boats would train like there was no tomorrow literally. The coxswains in these boats went above and beyond to make sure their crews had everything they needed. But the key that made these rowers so good, was their recovery. You could tell how seriously they take their health and recovery.

THE RACE:

So many teams from all over the world come to Cambridge, MA, just to race in this regatta. Walking around the course was impressive because you would see so many different teams getting ready or coming off the water. Watching other crews race was the most mesmerizing thing I have ever seen. Most of these coxswains have only been on the Charles once or twice and having to race with 80 plus boats in the narrow Charles seems nerve-racking. But the way they would execute and control their crew under any circumstance was so respectable.

If you ever get the chance to watch HOCR, take it you won’t regret it. That’s all for now, see you next time.
