[Photos] 2019 Ford Mustang Mach-E Is Everything We鈥檇 Hoped
Ford has at long last revealed the all-new Mustang Mach-E, the fully electric SUV that marks the first new addition to the Mustang lineup in 55 years. The Mustang DNA couldn鈥檛 be clearer in the Mach-E, from its fastback shape to its tri-bar taillights. Ford punched up the Mustang aesthetic in creating an SUV that鈥檚 capable of seating five and accommodating tons of cargo. Inside, the Mustang Mach-E buffs up the Mustang design elements with a double-cowl instrument panel, but it鈥檚 exceedingly modern thanks to features like a floating flip-up armrest and available panoramic fixed-glass roof. The Mustang Mach-E will also debut key technologies like Phone As A Key and SYNC 4, the latter of which will be available via a 15.5-inch screen. Is the 2020 Ford Mustang Mach-E Fast? But of course, the most exciting element of the Mustang Mach-E is its performance capabilities. Both the Mach-E and the Mach-E GT are available with rear-wheel drive or the new Mach-E 4 all-wheel drive system.
The standard 2020 Ford Mustang Mach-E will deliver 332 horsepower and 417 lb-ft of torque, making it no slouch in its own right, with AWD models expected to outperform the Porsche Macan in the 0-60 mph sprint. Talk about going like hell. The Mach-E is expected to deliver an EPA-estimated range of over 300 miles with rear-wheel drive and an extended-range battery. Expect more detailed info on range for the Mach-E, Mach-E GT, and Mach-E GT Performance Edition closer to launch. 500 refundable deposit today. After the success of the 2001 Mustang Bullitt, Ford launched another "Living Legend" specialty Mustang in 2003 with the re-introduction of the Mach 1 model. Mach 1 offered car collectors and enthusiasts alike a modern Mustang with an infusion of Ford muscle-car styling cues from the '60s. Its functional "shaker" hood scoop was modeled after the car's original shaker hood, and other signature design cues also came from the Mach 1's 1969 namesake, including the logo. These include a matte-black hood stripe, black front air-dam extension, a black rear decklid spoiler, predominate rocker panels, body side scoops and five-spoke wheels. Even some classic color schemes returned; Mach 1 exterior paint choices in 2003 were Oxford White, Black, Torch Red, Zinc Yellow, Azure Blue and Dark Shadow Gray. To match its aggressive looks, the Mach 1's 4.6L DOHC modular engine originally developed for the SVT Cobra featured a dual-bore 57mm throttle body, cast-aluminum intake manifold and a set of new, high-flow four-valve cylinder heads. Exhaust manifolds were port matched to the heads, and specific Mach 1 mufflers were tuned to create a unique sound. Mach 1 was offered with a manual or automatic transmission. Front: Independent, modified MacPherson strut with separate spring on lower arm and 26.5-mm stabilizer bar.
As a Mustang aficionado, I too was outraged at the thought of a non Mustang bearing the Mach 1 name. But after a while, and seeing the teaser of the Mustang inspired taillights on an SUV, I think I changed my mind. I hate seeing Ford make bad decisions. Let鈥檚 take the Ford Taurus, which was one of the top selling family sedans for many years. While it was still successful, Ford dropped the name & rebranded it 500. Seeing the decline in sales, they updated it with a better engine & options & changed the name back to Taurus. Guess what, sales improved over the 500. Next mistake, new redesigned Taurus. Nice car, but what does Ford do? They don鈥檛 advertise it and haven鈥檛 updated it at all. Brand recognition is a good thing, but you can鈥檛 rely on a name alone. You need to promote it and update it. Show it some love. A neglected product will lead to neglected demand from customers. Back to the Mustang. I love my Mustang. I want to keep it as it has just the right amount of mods to my liking. My daily is a Nissan Rogue. Comfortable, good on gas, but slow & boring. Boy if I could afford it I would love a performance SUV to blend fun and needs! I mean, Dodge seems to be doing well with the Challenger, Charger, Durango. They all carry similar cues of each other. I say go for it Ford. Make a Mach 1 SUV but make it a performer, not an Escape with a performance name.
