A collection belonging to Gill King documenting the story of Newquay Rowing Club is now online at cornishmemory.com.
Some of the collection items are linked to Gill’s father George Northey who along with Dick Gillis, Bob Northey and Tom Pryor visited the Isles of Scilly to purchase the Bonnet, Slippen, Golden Eagle and later the Shah in the 1950’s.
The boats were returned in the 1960’s but a lasting friendship between Newquay and Scilly ensued.
The collection reflects this relationship and also documents the success of the Newquay Ladies crew during the late 1970’s and 1980’s.
Search ‘GKING’ to view the collection which is part of the Cornish Pilot Gig Association Collection on cornishmemory.com.
