2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan Starts At $32,500
We've already reviewed the 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class and loved it, but we didn't know quite how expensive it would be. As it turns out, it's pretty darn affordable for the quality it packs. 32,500 for a front-wheel-drive model. 2,000 onto the equation. There's a solid amount of standard equipment in there, too. All A-Class Sedans get Mercedes-Benz's new MBUX infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, in addition to LED headlights and safety systems like automatic braking and hill-start assist. Its 2.0-liter I4 gas engine puts out 188 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, and it comes mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Of course, the price only goes up from there. With the A-Class Sedan's price where it is, expect the forthcoming CLA-Class to be a bit more expensive. Not only do Mercedes' swoopy-coupe variants typically cost more, the CLA-Class is more powerful and a little better equipped than the A-Class with frippery like gesture control.
Furthermore, customizing the interior aftermarket will be more expensive, especially if you would like to change the colors of the seats or paneling. Doing so would require leaving the vehicle at an auto body shop and paying hundreds of dollars in labor costs. While it is unlikely that most consumers will go to these lengths in order to customize their Mercedes, adding these personal touches is quite a reward, especially if the base price is affordable. Mercedes-Benz offers many vehicle customizations a la carte, meaning the buyer can hand pick exactly which features they would like in their new car. However, the manufacturer also offers some optional features in a package, which helps to save time in choosing some of the most popular features. The premium package is one such option. Some of the features in this package include auto-dimming mirrors and satellite radio. This package also includes safety and convenience features such as rain sensing windshield wipers, a garage door opener, and a compass display. The multimedia package is another popular options package. Many consumers opt for this package because it offers enhanced voice control, iPod media interface, and a media database. Customizing a new Mercedes is very affordable. In fact, choosing the right custom features adds more value to the price of a brand new vehicle.
Since there鈥檚 so much camo and padding, the number of enhancements that we can spot to the new AMG A43 are pretty slim. Furthermore, it鈥檚 sporting decoy fascia鈥檚 and decoy rear lights, so that doesn鈥檛 help matters either. If the front fascia is truly representative of change, then it looks like the A43 could get circular running lights up front, with smaller air intakes on the corners. The air dam will likely grow a bit, but the radiator grille should remain roughly the same size and shape. It looks like the headlights will be much smaller on the A43, but it鈥檚 really hard to tell from the shots we have today. There does appear to be an aggressive body line on each corner of the fascia, which could indicate that the A43 could be void of corner intakes at all. The hood is heavily padded, leading us to believe that the hood will change dramatically by the time the car hits dealers. Expect to see muscular lines on each side, just like on the current A45, but expect them to be sharper and more pronounced on this model.
Moving over to the sides, the biggest thing we鈥檝e spotted is the shape of the side windows. The A-pillars on this model looked to be angled a bit more aggressively, and the roof may sit just a little lower. This leads to shorter windows overall, especially in the back. As you can see, the rear doors are now a little bit longer than before, and the upper curve of the rear doors curve downward farther back. This makes for a larger stationary window and wider primary glass in the rear door. Notice how the rear side of the door actually follows the contour of the rear wheel well on this prototype? It also looks like the fuel filler door will be square on the A43. Farther back, the Pillar between the back doors and the rear hatch is not a little bit wider. Sure, there鈥檚 a lot of padding on the rear hatch that helps to throw us off a little, but if you look closely, you can spot the extra length. The more you look at it, the more it becomes clear that the extra length on the new A43 will be found in the rear.
