Top Gear Reveals Performance Car Of The Year Contenders

Imagine getting paid to find the winner.

A few days ago Top Gear revealed a brief preview trailer for its upcoming Performance Car of the Year competition during Speed Week. The contenders are all special in their own way, despite output and cost. Then again, the more expensive the car, the more insane things get. For example, the Ford GT, McLaren 720S, Mercedes-AMG E63, Audi R8 Plus Spyder, Lamborghini Huracan Performante and Lexus LC500 are all there, gunning for the same top prize.

And then there are cars at the complete opposite end of the both the price and output spectrum. These include the Honda Civic Type R and Volkswagen Polo GTI.

But a proper competition isn’t necessarily about the best performance numbers. It's also about the way a car drives and whether or not it broke new industry ground. In short, which car has made the most dramatic impact in the past 12 months? That’s the job bestowed upon Chris Harris. Between now and November 1, Speed Week will be taking place at the Knockhill circuit in Scotland. It’ll be interesting to see how it compares to Motor Trend’s Best Driver’s Car competition in terms of criteria. In any case, there are some heavy hitters this year and it’ll be quite interesting to see who comes out on top.
