Porsche 911 Carrera

Continuing a tradition that has lasted for more than 40 years, the Porsche 911 Carrera and the Cabriolet trim has always been a work in progress. Porsche engineers are consistently improving the car in every subsequent generation. Currently, the 911 Carrera Cabriolet comes with a standard 3.6 liter flat-6 which is good for 345 horsepower. The most recent upgrade is the addition of the Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe, which is German for double-clutch transmission, in short the "PDK."

It's a conventional 7-speed manual gearbox with two electronically-controlled clutch packs. While the latest 911 Carrera received a mid-life freshening in 2009, the big news is the PDK transmission, as Porsche predicts that future and current buyers will favor it over a conventional six-speed manual. Only time will tell on this one, as Porsche also tried to get enthusiasts to embrace the Tiptronic transmission, which just proved to be a slow-shifting slushbox.
