Body - Trunk Lid Won't Stay Open

Trunk Lid Does Not Stay Open
If you receive customer reports in the above models regarding the trunk lid not staying open, check to see if the retaining bracket for the tension
spring at the trunk lid hinge is damaged / broken. In this case, the trunk lid hinge bracket must be replaced. It is no longer necessary to replace the
trunk lid hinge since the bracket is available separately.
- Remove trim panels on the left and right sides of the trunk.
- Install support tool, W170 589 04 63 00, to hold trunk lid securely open.
- Remove left and right trunk lid tension springs (Figure 1, 1).
- Cut off left and right retaining bracket (Figure 1, 2) at line as indicated in picture with a body saw.
- Deburr and break sawed edges.
- Enlarge hole (Figure 1, 3) to 6.1 mm diameter.
- Prime bare metal in area of repair with primer touch up stick, A000 986 06 50.
- Fasten repair brackets (Figure 1, 4). Note installation position on both left and right sides.
- Install trunk lid tension springs on left and right sides.
10. Check trunk lid for proper function.
11. Install trim panels on the left and right sides of the trunk.
