BMW finally pulled the wraps off of its long-awaited 8 Series coupe, and production is already under way. We knew that BMW's flagship coupe wouldn't be a cheap date, but we didn't know exactly how much the car was going to cost. Now BMW has finally announced pricing for the 2019 M850i xDrive Coupe, which is currently the only configuration available for the 8 Series in the US. Pricing will start at $111,900 plus $995 for destination and handling with availability starting December 8.
The M850i is not an inexpensive car, but it does come with a lot of toys. Standard equipment includes full LED headlights with LaserLight technology, Merino leather upholstery, sixteen-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, adaptive M suspension with active-roll stabilization, M sport brakes, parking assist, and 12.3 inch and 10.25 inch digital displays with navigation. Of course, there will be some optional extras including Driving Assistant Professional, a 1,400 watt Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system, glass controls for the gear selector, iDrive controller, start/stop button and audio volume knob, and a carbon fiber roof.
BMW will also offer a carbon fiber exterior trim package, which includes carbon inlays on the front and rear bumpers, large diffusor blades in the rear, and carbon mirror caps and a rear spoiler. At $111,900, the M850i undercuts its closest rival, the Mercedes S560 Coupe ($124,500). The 8 Series still costs more than the competition from Japan, the Lexus LC500 ($92,000). We'll also have to wait to see if will BMW offer a RWD version as well as the anticipated M8.
