Various drivability complaints and/or misfire faults may be attributed to the formation of intake valve/port carbon deposits, however many other

items can cause these symptoms

PROCEDURE

Before attempting any repair to clean the carbon buildup on the intake valves/ports, a complete diagnosis encompassing the vehicle, coils, and

injectors have to be performed. Refer to the applicable Service Information Bulletins before removing any components from the engine.

SI B13 04 09 - N54 - Diagnosis of Cold Start Rough Running with Misfire Faults

SI B12 55 06 - N54 - Diagnosis for DME FC 29DC/29F2/2FBF

SI B12 05 09 - N54 E60, E61 - Misfire Faults Stored due to DME Software Errors

SI B12 06 09 - N54 E9x, E82, E88 - Misfire Faults Stored Due to DME Software Error

SI B11 03 08 - Crankcase Ventilation System Diagnosis and Measurement

Only after a complete diagnosis has been performed without any faults being found, submit a PuMA case with a thorough explanation of the

complaint, diagnostic steps taken, and fault codes observed. Include in the title "Intake Carbon".

After TSE review, the appropriate repair solution will be provided by the TSE via a return response to your PuMA case.

WARRANTY INFORMATION

Eligible PuMA approved repairs are covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle/SAV Limited Warranty or the BMW Certified Pre-Owned

Program.

Claims for repairs to de-carbon the intakes valves/ports without prior TSE PuMA case approval will not be accepted.

TSEs will provide reimbursement information in the PuMA Case.
