Replacement of Weight Sensing Seat Sensors
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of the passenger side Weight Sensing Seat (WSS) not functioning correctly the cause
could be the WSS sensor mounted to each corner of the seat frame. The seat frame assembly should no longer be replaced as an assembly since it is
possible to replace each individual WSS sensor. If it is determined one or more of the WSS sensors is at fault follow the procedure listed below to
resolve.
1. Remove/install WSS sensors. Refer to WIS Document AR91.60-P-0811T (211 and 219), AR91.60-P- 0810GZ (164 Left and right front
sensor), AR91.60-P-0810GA (164 left and right rear sensor) and/or AR91.60-P-0810RT (251 all sensors).
NOTE: Move seat fully forward and upward prior to disconnecting from power. This will ensure access to right front sensor bolt.
2. Use special tool W211 589 00 32 00 and STAR Diagnosis to recalibrate the WSS sensors. STAR Diagnosis path: Control Units -> Body ->
WSS -> Initial Startup/Recalibration
NOTE: All seat frame assemblies replaced under warranty for faulty WSS sensors will be debited back to the dealer.
Special Tools
NOTE: This special tool should already be in every MB Dealers Special Tool Inventory as it was released and automatically shipped in March
2002.
