All Model 164 Vehicles, Up to VIN A359047
All Model 251 Vehicles, Up to VIN A074553
Equipped with Electric Folding Mirrors (SA code 500)
Exterior Mirror Does Not Fold Completely In or Out
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of the exterior mirror not folding completely in or out, this may be caused by too much
resistance at the pivot points in the mirror. Perform the following to resolve.
1. Fold in both mirrors.
2. Apply lubricant, WD40 (purchase locally), to folding mirror pivot points (Figure 1, 1).
3. Fold both outside mirrors in and out approximately 10 times.
4. At room temperature 68°F (20°C), time how long the mirror takes to fold in and/or fold out.

5. If the folding or unfolding sequence takes longer than 5 seconds, the outside mirror assembly must be replaced (reference EPC for correct part
number).
Note:
This condition can induce other symptoms such as the mirror vibrating while driving or the mirror housing rattling when the door is closed.
Note:
Even if the complaint is seen on only one exterior mirror, perform the repair on both exterior mirrors.
