Model 251 with Diesel Engine OM 642, Model Years 2008 and 2009
Check Coolant Line, Replace if Necessary
This Service Campaign has been initiated because Daimler AG has determined that the coolant hose in the area of the fan shroud may work loose
when driving on rough roads due to insufficient retention of the bracket. The dealer will fasten the hose with an additional cable tie at the next
workshop visit. In addition, if the hose is found to be damaged it will be replaced.
Prior to performing this Service Campaign:
^ Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired.
^ Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as described.
Please note that Recall and Service Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.
Approximately 520 vehicles are affected.

^ Please be aware that only the part number(s) referenced in the Campaign Bulletin is/are approved for use to repair the vehicle. Repairs
performed using any other part(s) will not have been performed in accordance with the campaign. Accordingly, warranty claims submitted
with reference to an improper part number(s) will be denied.
^ The following allowable labor operation should be used when submitting a warranty claim for this repair:

A. Inspect coolant hose.
1. Inspect coolant hose (A, Figure 1) at fan shroud for damage (chafe marks where it comes into proximity with fan shroud bracket [B,
Figure 2]).
^ If coolant hose is not damaged proceed to step 2.
^ If coolant hose is damaged proceed to Subject B.
2. Unclip coolant hose (A, Figure 2) from bracket (B) on fan shroud then install cable tie (arrow).

Note:
Ensure cable tie is correctly installed into clip (Figure 3).
3. Secure coolant hose (A, Figure 4) to bracket (B) at fan shroud and fasten with cable tie (arrow).
Note:
Do not over tighten cable tie (arrow, Figure 4) or the coolant hose (A) may become deformed.
B. Replace coolant hose and secure
1. Drain coolant; refer to WIS: AR20.00-P-1142GZB.
2. Remove engine cover:

^ Loosen cowl cover (A, Figure 5): remove 4 bolts (arrows) then partially remove weather strip (B) from cowl cover (A).
^ Lift cowl cover (A) then remove engine cover.
3. Remove air intake duct (arrow, Figure 6).
4. Remove charge air hose (A, Figure 6), refer to WIS: AR09.41-P-8621GZB8621GZB

5. Loosen hose clamps (arrows, Figures 7, 8) then remove hose assembly (A, Figure 7).
6. Install new hose assembly (A, Figure 7) in reverse order
Note:
Use new hose clamps (arrows, Figure 7) on lower hose ends.
^ Reuse "clip" clamp (arrow, Figure 8) to secure upper hose to engine fitting.
7. Install cable tie (arrow, Figure 9) to bracket (A).

Note:
Ensure cable tie is correctly installed into clip (Figure 10).
8. Secure coolant hose (A, Figure 11) to bracket (B) on fan shroud and fasten with cable tie (arrow).
Note:
Do not over tighten cable tie (arrow) or the coolant hose (A) may become deformed.
9. Refill cooling system with new coolant then bleed system, refer to WIS: AR20.00-P-1142GZB.
10. Reassemble remaining components in reverse order.
