If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of the active head restraint activating without any obvious reason (accident, etc), and/or
any of the fault codes listed are stored in the airbag control unit, this may be caused by damage to the seat wiring harness causing a short circuit.
Follow the steps below to resolve.
Model 164 / 251
1. Remove the seat back lining of the affected seat to access the wiring harness from the vehicle to the seat/headrest and unplug the connector of the
active head restraint. Refer to WIS document AR91.10-P-1915GZ.
2. Inspect the wiring harness for any visible damage. If damaged, repair the wiring harness in accordance with WIS instructions AR00.19-P-0001A.
3. Using a multi-meter measure the resistance between both pins of the headrest. The measured resistance should be between 1-1.5 Ohms. If it
measures 0, there is a short and the head restraints are damaged and need to be replaced (specify by VIN using EPCnet Group 91/065 or 91/070 as
appropriate).
4. Cut a piece of felt (A001 983 52 10) roughly 70 mm x 50 mm and glue onto strut (Figure 1).

5. If double white clip is not installed (Figure 2, circle), fasten the wiring harness with cable ties (A002 997 24 90) to the existing two holes.
6. If the two holes are not present, drill two holes 6 mm in diameter. Refer to Figure 3 and Figure 4 for the correct location).
Model 221
1. Remove the seat back lining of the affected seat to access the wiring harness from the vehicle to the seat/headrest and unplug the connector of the
active head restraint. Refer to WIS document AR91.10-P-1915GZ.
2. Inspect the wiring harness for any visible damage (Figure 5). If damaged, repair the wiring harness in accordance with WIS instructions
AR00.19-P-0001A.
