Complaint:
Steering leaking in area of input shaft, below protective cap.
This complaint only affects steering gears with the following part numbers:
A164 460 01 00
A164 460 05 00
A251 460 02 00
A251 460 07 00
The repair method described below may only be used on these part numbers.
Cause:
Wear on upper radial shaft sealing ring in control head
Remedy:
NOTE:
It is not necessary to replace the entire steering gear!!!
Replace control head complete, replacing the lower radial shaft sealing ring in the steering gear housing at the same time.
Procedure:
1. Remove steering, as per AR46.20-P-0600GZ
2. Detach control head and replace lower radial shaft sealing ring in steering gear housing, as per AR46.20-P-0003Q, valid for models 203/209
Note:
The work instructions AR46.20-P-0003Q "Replace lower radial shaft sealing ring at control head" is currently being expanded for models
164/251 and will be published in WIS shortly. Follow all the operation steps as for models 203/209, and use the torque specifications of
these models. This also applies for the operation number with text (46-4216).
3. Install new control head according to parts listing, as per AR46.20-P-0003Q, valid for models 203/209
4. Adjust play between thrust piece and steering rack, as per AR46.20-P-0601TX
5. Install steering, as per AR46.20-P-0600GZ
6. Check function of steering
Note:
For this repair the front toe need to be checked / adjusted when necessary.
