Complaint:
1. Knocking/thumping noises or
2. Cracking/clicking noises from vicinity of glove box
Cause:
1. The knocking/thumping noise can be heard, for example, in stop-and-go traffic. In this case, the fresh air/recirculated air/back pressure flap
knocks against the housing and causes this noise.
2. The cracking/clicking noise is caused by the springs of the fresh air/recirculated air/back pressure flap. This can also be heard in stop-and-go
traffic.
Remedy:

On vehicles produced before November 2007, proceed as follows for point 1.
Remove the cover under the instrument panel (AR68.10-P-1520CW), then disassemble the glove box (AR68.10-P-1200CW).
After removing the glove box, the housing of the fresh air/recirculated air/back pressure flap is visible. Remove the cover of the fresh air/recirculated
air housing
Remove the existing guide pin (2 ea.), cut them off using side cutting pliers.

On vehicles produced before November 2007, proceed as follows for point 2.
Remove the cover under the instrument panel (AR68.10-P-1520CW), then disassemble the glove box (AR68.10-P-1200CW).
Remove the old springs by unhooking them from the lower attachment, then turn through 90°, then detach the springs. Install new springs in reverse
order, the retaining points of the springs must be greased. See attachment, spring description
Actuate using DAS, perform a listening test on the springs of the fresh air/recirculated air/back pressure flap under menu items: Air conditioning /
Actuation / M2/5 (fresh air/recirculated air flap actuator motor)
