Removing and Installing Front Disc Brake Pads for 2010 Porsche Cayenne (9PA) V6-3.6L

Preliminary work
Raise the vehicle -> Lifting the vehicle
Remove wheel -> Removing and installing wheel - section on "Removing" See: Maintenance/Wheels and Tires/Wheels/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement.
Removing
1.Removing front disc brake pads
The core of the warning contact line must not be left exposed. It does not matter if the insulation is worn.
If necessary, remove a little brake fluid from the expansion tank by suction to prevent overflow when the disc brake pad is pushed back. 1. Remove fastening screw at the retaining pin. Then screw in M8 auxiliary screw. Hold down the expanding spring with a screwdriver -see illustration- and remove retaining pin.

2. Remove warning contact line from brake caliper and expanding spring. Remove warning contacts from the brake disc pads.
3. Piston resetting fixture (replaces P83) Nr.144 , refer to Tools and Equipment, must be fitted on the brake caliper between the disc brake pads in order to push the pads back evenly -arrows- .
4. Remove disc brake pads.

Installing
Installing front disc brake pads
WARNING
Old mounting parts fitted on the brake caliper
- Reduced braking effect
- Risk of damage to the brake caliper
-> Fit new expanding spring, new retaining pin and securing clip on the brake caliper.
WARNING
Installation of brake pads with the wrong brake pad quality
- Longer braking distance - More wear on brake pads
-> Only use the type-specific brake pads listed in the Porsche Parts Catalogue.
-> Replace the brake pads when the brake pad wear indicator light comes on, but no later than when there is a residual pad thickness of 2 mm on each axle.
-> Replace the brake discs on each axle as soon as the brake pad wear limit is reached.
Do not grease the back of the disc brake pad.
The new disc brakes must be clean and free of grease.
Check disc brakes for wear; for details of wear limits, see -> 46 Technical data/brake wear limits.
The core of the warning contact line must not be left exposed. It does not matter if the insulation is worn.
Use a new repair kit.
Observe tightening torques -> 46 Tightening torques for brake mechanism.
1. If necessary, push brake piston back into its original position using the piston resetting fixture (replaces P83) Nr.144 , refer to Tools and Equipment.
2. Fit new disc brake pads.

Information
- Make sure that the retaining pin is inserted in the correct position. The flat side surfaces prevent the retaining pin from twisting in the brake
caliper.
3. Install expanding spring. Centre the retaining pin in the bore with the M8 auxiliary screw. To do so, press retaining pin back with the auxiliary screw and push retaining pin through. Remove auxiliary screw and fit fastening screw at the retaining pin with the specified tightening torque -> 46 Tightening torques for brake mechanism.
4. Install warning contact line at disc brake pads and expanding spring -arrows- . The cable guide in the expanding spring must be at the bottom.

5. Position disc brake pads by operating the brake several times.
6. Check the brake fluid level and correct it if necessary. The brake fluid level must be between the -MIN and MAX markings- .Subsequent work

Information
Bedding in the brake pads
New brake pads require a bedding-in period of approx. 200 km (124 miles). Only then do they achieve their best friction and wear coefficient. During this period, the brakes should only be subjected to full stress at high speed in emergencies.
